Agreed. Someone even managed to get Tartufo buckets, which we all thought was impossible. Seems galvanic controls would have been far easier (not to mention cheaper) to spec than that, but I certainly haven't seen any.

They always get you, anywhere in the world.

It’s been on there for 2 weeks now. My build is completely maxed with everything minus the carbon package.
My alcantara wheel just got deleted from the options in the Track My BMW website, looks like we cannot get both driving assistance pro and Alcantara wheel. So sad

Yeah in the build config, if you choose the alcantara wheel it says will delete driver assistance.

They’re just telling you that if you’re getting driver assistance on an M, you’re NOT a driver and you don’t need the alcantara steering wheel. 😂

I tried ordering galvanic controls on my 2024 G80 individual scheduled for April production and I don't think BMWNA approved the request because it's not on the option list.

Wait, you mean to tell me a base M4 has the same 0-60 time as an m340i xdrive, even though it has 100 more horsepower, and costs 20k more??????? Why on earth would anyone want one of these?

solid theory. I'll go with that until someone proves us wrong. Pretty sure it'll go something like "blah blah, M cars are totalllllllly different than non-M cars. blah blah suspension.... blah blah the competition is only 4k more and thats when you really get your money's worth"

And they wouldn't have been wrong 8 years ago before BMW muddied their fleet and added the m badging to the top tier of each series... then additional M models in the M sub series of each series.... now they just take sales from themselves.

All that being said.... still the best driving luxury car brand for the price

They are entirely different and you will notice that the second you drive one. On paper they appear closer together.

Yeah, it's a travesty BMW has smeared together their product lines like that... all in the name of profitability. However, it's the same exact thing with Audi's S-line and especially Merc's dumb little 43 and 53 "AMG's" they are putting out these days... sad. Same could be said for Porsche, although to a lesser extent. The Macan and the Taycan "Turbo S" comes to mind. Turbo S on a fully EV really bugs me.

I hear you, I have driven a few M cars in my time so I'm well aware they drive like a different beast. But it still seems odd to me that the performance figures are as close as they are between those two given the aforementioned horsepower and cost difference. Thats all I'm saying.

Did your spouse get ahold of your account? Or are you trying to justify your inability to afford it? Must be one or the other

While both of those are viable options can I propose a third?
I’m just a guy wondering why on earth the “m4 competition xdrive” isn’t just the “m4”. Because the “m4 base” is literally for the individual you just described. Someone whose spouse hijacked their account or doesn’t have the ability to afford it.
That’s all I’m saying. I’m not insinuating the M4 in its full potential is a bad car. I’m saying BMW put out a poor man’s, shit variety of what once used to be their pinnacle of performance. And proof of this is the fact that their mid size 4 door sedan has the same performance stats as it.
There’s no denying it.

I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt here.

1) It’s a $13k delta between the M440i x drive and the M4 base. Compare apples to apples.
2) M has merino leather and some other quality pieces like carbon roof, better brakes, etc. You can also option much more - bucket seats, CCB, etc.
3) X drive improves 0-60 for traction reasons
4) Manual transmissions are always slower than automatics. So the fact it’s 0.1s faster to 60 even without x drive and a manual shows the power delta.

The M4 base is for the individual who wants a manual transmission. The comp and comp x are much faster, of course.

And here’s an interesting little factoid: my comp x was $87k. My base M was $98k. So affordability is irrelevant to the moniker.

Weight is also a factor.
And the B58 is much slower after 60 mph than the S58.
