Leather dashboard retrofit
Hi, I just noticed reading the "wish I had ordered" thread that I didnt order the extended leather package and it seems that the dash is not leather. I currently have a G20 that has the extended leather and this is an amazing feature. My SA strongly recommended not to change anything at this stage (week 23 build) as they recently saw a car pushed back for 6 weeks.
Question now: can I somehow retrofit the leather top? Location Canada Thanks Chris |

I would never want to take on a dash removal/install on this car. I feel there is just too much to go wrong, and possible creaks/squeaks afterwards.
Full leather is a wonderful option, glad I have it. But I think the standard leather is just fine. BMW's non-leather dash seems to be a very high quality soft plastic (or rubber?). |

I have never had a full leather interior, and think my non-leather dash is perfectly fine, doesn't feel cheap or low quality at all. However, I suspect this is a case of ignorance being bliss...if I'd had the upgrade...I could see not wanting to go backwards.
This might also have nothing to do with the SA - if BMW truly is delaying stuff that gets last minute changes... |

IMO Make the change. If you have to wait an extra six weeks, oh well. Its better than living with "I wish I would have" for however many years you keep it.

Once you have full leather, it's hard to go back. I agree that just the extended leather looks fine, but full takes it up a big notch and gives the car a more luxurious look and feel. Do it now if you want it so you don't regret it later.

I didn't like the full leather dash on the Fxx, it looked like it was an afterthought. The later cars had a fake stitch on the non leather dash and I thought this was ok. The Gxx leather dash is stunning, my brother had a G82 without it and when I got in his it was obvious straight away it was missing something.
Personally I'd make the change Op. You'll regret not getting in IMO and retro install isn't an option (for me)

+1: make the change if your car hasn't yet been scheduled for production. I've had a few BMWs with full leather interiors, and they are great to see and touch. The G8x dashboard and door card design lends themselves very well to the leather treatment (unlike some of the Bangle-era interiors). A few hours behind the wheel of a G20 with the vinyl dashboard reminded me how glad I optioned full leather in my M4.

I'm ok with extended leather but if I could go back, I would definitely tick the full leather box. Had it in my 7 series cars and was being cheap. It's not like I could not afford another 2550 for the option.

Feels a bit ridiculous you have to even option something like this IMO. This was okay back when the M3 was a 60-65k proposition. But when you're knocking on the door of $100k - throw the goddamn full leather in BMW, jesus.
OP: just do the change and tell your CA to shove it. Waiting for something as important as full leather is worth it.

Make the change, the full leather really lifts the interior IMO. Think when it comes to resale most buyers will want this option. I saw two G80s next to each other basically the same interior apart form the leather. IMO chalk and cheese. Get it!

Hello. Does anyone know of anyone or anywhere I can purchase a Fiona Red Full Leather dashboard to retrofit on my G80 M3?
I do have a part number(51-45-9-628-115) but doesn’t seem like any BMW dealer near me has one in stock. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks |

Bummer about the leather dash, miss! I had a similar thing and went for a custom leather retrofit. I found a local auto upholstery shop, and they did wonders! It cost me a bit, but it's totally worth the upgrade. Also, you can get high-quality leather at https://vonbaer.com/. Good luck!

Can I ask what you'd ballpark the upholstery shop charging to go from extended to full leather? Thanks! |
