‘23 M3Cx completely dead….

Ok….trying to take deep breaths.

Car has been in storage in my garage since November. Have had it on the bmw lithium ion battery tender since the beginning of storage. Twice a week I enter the car to make sure everything is ok and no problem….until today….

Enter the car, first 5 seconds everything is normal. dashboard lights up, interior dome light turns on, music starts playing….

Then out of nowhere, 5-10 seconds later, the dashboard and interior cabin light starts to flicker 3-4 times, then silence. Car is completely dead. No lights nothing. It’s like something shorted out or something….

Note that the battery tender does not register the battery at all….

Car only has 149km’s on it.
Having it towed to the dealer tomorrow morning. Will see what they say.

Needless to say, I’m 😤 pissed.

Yes. Dual mode.

Everything was working fine until this afternoon . In fact, I did a remote services lights flash earlier today and everything was perfect. Went to sit in the car today, dash and lights flickered, and everything is dead.

What’s weird is that the battery charger does not even register the battery is connected. It’s like a loose battery connector or something.

Completely dumbfounded.

Maybe UVP issue?

Not sure why there's anything to be worried or upset about. It's a car. They break. You have a warranty.

This is true. And a good reminder to keep things in perspective. Worse things in life can happen.

Still can’t help feeling pissed off tho.

The good thing is that we're all in the same boat. We all own BMWs and they love breaking. So it's just part of the package, really.

Appreciate your perspective.

It’s a badge of honor I suppose …a broken bmw that is.

Was just hoping to get to the break in period before it crapped out. That can’t be to much to ask….

BATTERIES WITH "UNDER VOLTAGE PROTECTION"

Some Lithium-ion batteries have an on-board UVP (under volt-
age protection) that disconnects the battery to avoid it becom-
ing too deeply discharged. This prohibits the CTEK charger
from detecting that there’s a battery connected. To bypass this,
the battery charger needs to open the UVP.

By pressing the RESET-button for 10 seconds, the charger
opens the UVP. During this process, the charging STEP 7 is
lit. Once the UVP has been opened and the battery is ready
to be charged, the charger automatically starts the charging
cycle.

Ok. I held the mode button to reset the charger.

It began to register the battery at level 2 of 8. However, there was clicking sounds inside the engine bay? What would they be? Not sure I want to leave it charging if there are noises in the engine bay

Sure sounds like UVP but regardless the battery should not be discharged so rapidly. Likely a faulty battery to begin with. Send her to the dealer.

Right. What weird is that the charger has shown fully charged for 3 months. Could it be that the charger was not actually tending the battery and was just stuck at level 8?

If it’s on a battery tender for 4 months, it should not be dead. I have stored cars in this manner for over a decade and never had a problem.

Fair point on the low Mileage vs warranty.

Okay gotcha you must have a few cars 🦅.

Agreed should not be dead

I have a daily driver, my wife’s car as an option, motorcycle and the M3 and some how they all rack up miles.

I can’t sit still gotta be going somewhere

To maintain the battery the car needs to be driven, i wouldn't be surprised if the dealer found the battery to be dead and decline warranty due to the low mileage.

@Znomorph4theWin what's the voltage on the battery? Next time run the engine from time to time instead of relying on a battery charger.
