Unfortunately in this pic it looks like it has the new i4 gauge cluster design. It was confirmed in this thread that the G42 will be getting this design in 08/22.I am hoping that it is going to be optional and we will still be able to get the current G20 dash design.

Oh wow, my bad. Figured I wasn't the first to stumble across them.

Really appreciate you putting all of those links into one post, very cool!

The base 2er coupe that will launch this summer and is in those leaks is RWD as well (thanks to the M2, most likely, or else it's pretty dubious they would keep it that way this time round).

Most very likely Mexico. There's almost no chance them doing another line in Germany just for the G8x M2.

They need to focus on making the M2 remain the enthusiasts choice, especially since the M3 has drifted away from that title. I actually think the current power figures are also fine and don't need to be increased but they likely will anyways. What I would love is some weight loss, improve the steering, and soften the ride just a tad bit while still keeping the playful and engaging dynamics from the current M2.
This. Unless it gains 400lb like the G8x there is no need for more power. I mean, if you want it, you can tune it (well, if they find a way around Bosch DMEs). But the average enthusiast is going to find 430hp JUST fine. I would kill for lighter weight. One thing that will help is the new BMW M seating position with the carbon bucket. Should be much lower.

Personally I love having expensive and super glossy "carbon" in areas with direct proximity to rocks and road debris. What could go wrong.

I'm out already as far as the G87 goes. The few details that it's safe to assume "we do know" (slush box auto, sliding rear calipers, increased size & weight) are all deal breakers to me personally so I'll be keeping the F87 a little longer & looking elsewhere for my eventual replacement.
For those not concerned about such matters (which is likely most on here) I'm sure it will be a great car & no doubt much improved in many other areas such as better interior, more tech, more power. Unfortunately none of those are important to me personally & dont compensate for what the car will lose.
Imo it's basically going to be similar to the changes we've seen between the F82 & G82, there are many that are embracing the wider appeal of the new G82 & there are equally some that are not prepared to give up what the more hardcore F82 offers.
I'm not bashing the new G-series cars in any way it's simply that they appeal to a different market now & i personally am not part of that market.

Maybe a Mexico built M2 is a good thing.

The panel gaps will distract people from the styling.

I think you're still confused. There is already the 2 series Grand Coupe, F44, which just came out not too long ago, which is a FWD based platform.

This thread is about the new 2 Series coupe/M2, which is a GXX model, which is completely different from the 2 series grand coupe, as it is built on a regular rwd layout.

my God it looks the same, what an atrocity. Please no one post the GC and then C side by side.

In the case of the M2 I'll probably like it regardless of aesthetics, like the G8X M

Don't blame it on manufacturers; blame it on capitalism, blame it on shareholders. The only reason BMW goes to Mexico, or as you pointed out, Porsche goes to Vietnam, is to appease shareholder thirst for more and more profits. More often than not, these are usually institutional shareholders who manage large funds and only care about their bonus cheques.

That's why MB is 21st on the customer satisfaction list, with Mazda first.

COVID-19 proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, going offshore for "perceived" savings can pose dark longer-term ramifications.

A system which is heavily skewed in one direction or another, be it an ecosystem or an economic system, will sooner or later enter an entropic path to a natural balance when imbalance occurs.

If buyers buy less cars made in third-party countries to the point of manufactures losing profits, they won't be manufacturing there for much longer. But is that ever going to happen? realistically, not unless there is a COVID-like catastrophe in the system of things.

Currently there is no Ferrari that is built in China and no Porsche being built in Vietnam...yet

I doubt that will ever happen to Ferrari as their market positioning requires them to be exclusive in every aspect. Made in China goes against that positioning. In fact the market in China demands that Ferrari are to be made in Italy and Porsche GT cars are to be made in Germany. They are buying the allusion of opulence, technology is secondary.

In every Asian market, people psychologically want anything that they buy with a foreign brand name to be made overseas (not in China or SE, Japan is good), let alone a luxurious product. Imagine a Patek Philippe being made in China or Vietnam? Just not going to happen

Also, here is a render that looks fairly accurate for the front but not so much on the side/arches:

No, not capitalism. Marketing. BMW is resting on well established laurels. It takes time for the average consumer to become disillusioned with a brand as quality dips. I have a Golf R, made in Germany. It is screwed together so much better than my friend's GTI. Right down to the panel gaps. But it's not JUST profits. It's that most people don't care--they just want the badge. This won't last forever.

Aside from the S58, new BMWs are so clearly an exercise in cost cutting. The new M3/4 is no exception.

This. I don’t see BMW coming out with a more raucous / lively M2. I fully expect it to follow the G8X in that it will be more refined, more powerful, and objectively more capable, but lose its “personality” to some extent, gain weight, and get uglier. F87 was developed and used parts that were developed in a different era of BMW M - it’s no coincidence that the F87 receives enormous praise for pure driving dynamics relative to other more current models

Agreed. I am new to BMW, and have my M2C on order, so I don't have a lot of experience with the technology and enhancement changes between model generations; but they just got done charging $20K for that stuff, and I'm not sure how upset they would want all those CS owners who just paid up for it. I think it's great to be hopeful, but I don't see it happening.
