so I contacted them it looks like their residual value their bank rates the car at is the same as the comp model 57% so that's why its more the money factor is the same, I don't mind then paying the higher price as this is going to be my forever car! Ill be buying it out at the end of the lease with the warrant BMW has

Thanks for the help guys, Though a week before I may revive this thread to get the current money factor haha

thanks again guys!

Hey Guys,

I was able to get more information from them, I ended up lowering my MSRP a bit, I got better deals on some m performance carbon fiber stuff so the msrp was brought to 102k

Anyway after getting more information from them the residual they are setting it at is 64%

The money factor they have me at is .0031 which looks like its actually a lot more than bmw's money factor right now, how do you guys think i should mention this to them? i checked lease hackr if my Money Factor was at the same rate as BMW's then my payment would be about 85 dollars less per month

How should I bring this up to them? I was thinking of asking them why we cant go through BMW FS as their Money factor right now is .0267

What do you guys think? I am not the best at negotiation

Thank you!!

Some dealers have pretty strict internal policies about marking up rates and literally will not budge on it. You can just gently bring up the fact you talked to someone at FS who informed you the rate is .00267 and that you would like them to check on it and find out why it's different.

Otherwise, you can try some other methods to get an equivalent savings including coming down on MSRP, maybe giving 1-2% more residual, etc. You can bring up these "alternatives" if they don't come down on the MF.

So I found out they do mark up the MF by the difference :/ said that because they don't go over MSRP they bump the MF

It ends up being a 2887 difference through the course of the 3 year lease

I think ill have to stick with it, I had called 30 dealers nearest to me (some going to the next state) out of the 30 only 10 dealers had no wait list, with me being the next on allocation, then out of those 10, 5 of them had 10k mark up, 2 had 5k mark up, 1 could order me at msrp but would not do an individual paint order, the last 2 was this another dealer however this was the 1st to call me, The other dealer has since has 2 people join their waitlist and im SOL on that

Might as well commit to the mark up its the lowest out of them all and I need a car ASAP

thanks for all the information guys! I appreciate the all the information y'all provided

EDIT: I wish they were a little more straight forward with me on the MF bump but it is what it is

Just wanted to drop a reply to this in case anyone sees this in the future, your recourse for someone bumping the MF is to get more MSRP discount, you literally cannot get them to change the residual, it's impossible, residuals are set by the bank and cannot be modified by the dealership.

Thanks for clarifying. Is this not something that can be requested specifically? This was maybe 7-8 years ago, but I did negotiate a higher residual on my 2017 440i I purchased a while back, financed (owner's choice, not a lease) through BMWFS, or perhaps it's a newer policy?

There is no residual on a financed vehicle, a residual value is what the bank believes the car will be worth at the end of the lease, and is the basis for all lease math. All leases are essentially you paying the difference between what you negotiate to buy it now and what the bank thinks it will be worth at the end of the term, that's why it's a fixed number, all of their calculations depend heavily on it.

A dealership may have made you think they gave you a higher residual just to appease you if you were insistent by discounting the car more, but in reality, that number is fixed and cannot be modified other than for different mileage options (which are still set by the bank) or lowered in the case of mileage on a demo/loaner car.

Yeah I'm fully aware how a lease works vs finance, dumb brainfart by me. It was BMW OwnersChoice (Balloon Finance) so it was the balloon I was thinking of, not a residual, just mixed up the wording. So, maybe they have more leeway on the balloon amount in that case?

Honestly don't know, I haven't done an OwnersChoice deal in a while, I still doubt they'd have control over it as the balloon payment is usually also set by the bank, but I don't have nearly as much expertise in this area.

Gotcha. It was also nearly 10 years ago at this point so stuff may have changed since then.
