Considering their extensive industry experience and the well-known proficiency of Russian hackers, I'm not surprised they are the first to do so.

Interesting…. If they use Femto, DME will be unlocked but the how the regular maintanance should be executed?
You will need to say NO to any BMW updates. Wondering when BMW will say, no updates, no warranty as you are not following regular maintenance process? |

That will be coming eventually I'm sure. Just take what we can get right now and the fact the new DME can be unlocked at all is a blessing.

The is/ will be available for manual cars. The Java Green M3 on the Dyno in some of the videos, is a manual. It belongs to JavaG80.
I was at a CarBahn open house, a few weeks ago, and I talked to their tuner, extensively, for about an hour, about their tunes, and they will definitely be available for manuals. The tuner realizes the shortcomings with the stock clutch, and this tune isn't going to be like the other tunes, where, you can finally unlock all of the power that the competition comes with. The manual cars will be detuned specifically to save the clutch. If I remember the conversation, correctly, the tunes were going to be set in the mid to high 500s. 560-570. I would imagine when a viable clutch solution is available for these cars, currently there are disengagement issues with some of the Clutch Masters clutches for this platform, that there will be an option to tune it to what the clutch is capable of handling. The tuner also noted that the big power end, will be detuned under stock, to keep the top end safe. So, I'm assuming he meant over 140mph area. Also, keep in mind, these HP numbers for the stage 2 are also with the CarBahn installed heat exchanger. Price $1,620, as of this posting. $1,800 retail. NOTE FROM CARBAHN: "When used in conjunction with CarBahn software the addition of this heat exchanger provides enough safety that we can offer a factory matching warranty on your engine and drivetrain."

A great option for those looking for something a little more than a jb4 but don’t want to go full out with E. Even better that they’re local to me!

That last note makes it sound like they wouldn’t honor warranty if you DON’T have their proprietary heat exchanger. Can you verify if that’s the case based on discussions? |

If that's what they recommend to get the power level that they advertise, safely, just plan to have that installed, as well.

So 4k with heat exchanger and warranty hmmm… not to mention cost for FEMTO.
CSF is less than half for their heat exchanger. Maybe they’ll accept that as an alternative. |

I'm going to guess that keeping the stock cooler, and just adding an aftermarket part over it, retains the cooling warranty. If something happens, warranty wise, the stock cooler wasn't altered. You cant blame an aftermarket cooler, if this is a complete additional cooler. Just my $0.02. Not to mention, you "may" be able to install this without removing the entire bumper, as it is pretty small. It also doesn't mention, whether or not, this is "installed?" I'm sure they're going to want to install the cooler, if you're dealing with their warranty. Another $500+?

I would pay more attention to the Delta. That's the total added HP over stock. I wouldn't buy it without seeing the times people are running with the tune. However they are figuring it out, if the numbers are off, the delta, or overall gain would still be the same.

That additional intercooler (heat exchanger) is only required for the stage 2 tune.
The stage 1 tune doesn't require it. In any case......decreasing charge air temps is always a good thing! I like the one Steve showed in the video because it is very light and won't be as massive of a heat sink like some intercoolers are when the car is not moving air through them. |

fyi there is a viable aftermarket clutch solution for these cars from ptb racing several forum members have installed and it is working excellent. depending on configuration can handle up to 1000 lb ft of torque https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=30074885

I was talking to one of the reps at Carbahn. The base model M3 was on the Dyno when I was talking to him. Numbers should be out by Thursday this week. stage one initially, and does not require the heat exchanger. Stage two will require the heat exchanger..
It will be interesting to see the numbers, the delta is what I’m focusing on as BMW‘s numbers are not as advertised. Here’s a quote from IND industries BMW may say its S58 engine produces 473 horsepower (353 kilowatts) at the crank for the non-Competition models, but in reality, the six-cylinder mill generates nearly as much power at the wheels. IND Distribution says the rear-wheel-drive M4 they tested produced 464.92 hp (346.7 kW) at the wheels. As for torque, the engine is officially rated at 406 pound-feet (550 Newton-meters) at the crank, but it pushed out 408.55 lb-ft (553.9 Nm) at the wheels during the dyno run. The Carbahn one is a full additional one - hence the larger decrease in cooling temps up top. No Carbahn heat exchanger, no Stage 2 w/warranty. no exceptions I asked them directly. |
