Bland is kind. I had a Model S 75D for only two months until I couldn’t stand it anymore and got my M3.

I loved it from the beginning, and for that I am thankful. Everything subjective but I don't understand the vitriol.

My car made the front page of Bimmerpost yesterday and holy shit the Facebook comments are amazing.

This is a mystery to me about Tesla. There’s absolutely no reason in the world why they couldn’t have made those cars look cool. Every single model is ugly. They may be fast and they may have really cool tech but they are just plain unattractive.

I have the same reaction to the Model Y that G80 haters have to the front of my car. So, uh, good thing there are a lot of different cars out there people can buy, I suppose.

Yes but the difference is the only people that hate the G80 are people who are emotionally or financially invested in the F8X and are uncomfortable with change. Some men have a difficult time with change. Ask anyone that does not give a crap about BMW and is not a fan of the brand either way what they think of the G80 and they will tell you it looks awesome. I’m pretty sure every car enthusiast whether it be American muscle, Japanese or German we all think Teslas are ugly.

I see your point, and I applaud BMW for stepping outside the box with the design. However, and it’s my own however, it’s ugly and will go down the history as a cousin of Bangle butt era cars. Some people find that attractive too, and the same sentiments were heard about the E60 M5 - still not doing it for me.
All opinions expressed are my own, feel free to agree or disagree.

What made you sell it so shortly? I know (few people to be honest) who have a Model S ore 3 and they are all really happy with them. I'm curious to know an owner real review of a Tesla.

I think there's absolutely a case of internet bandwagoning going on with automotive journalists. It's a controversial design to say the least, and pretty much every review will point to that in an attempt to appeal to the masses. You're subconsciously more likely to like a review if you tend to agree with the reviewer in general... call it confirmation bias.

In regards to using sales figures to confirm whether or not the G8x is a success or not compared to previous generations - well that might be a bit of a skewed perspective when considering this will be one of the more accessible M3/M4's in history. You've got a torque converter automatic and AWD, so if anything the G8x will appeal to the masses more than previous generations have. So you're almost guaranteed more sales. That says nothing of whether the G8x is more popular among the enthusiast community or not.

All this being said, I personally couldn't give a rats ass. I'll most likely be ordering an M3 next year once my m340i lease is up because 1) I actually like the look of it, I think it oozes road presence and just looks so aggressive and mean, and 2) It drives absolutely wonderfully.

I‘m one of them. After seeing and driving the M4 Competition I directly ordered one. The car looks great imo if you see it in real life. Its a modern design. They didn‘t play it save and I‘m glad about that.

I have absolutely never seen a man or a woman that bought a vehicle (or any product for that matter) and said “yeah the freaking thing sure is ugly but I had to have it“. Now I’m not saying that’s never happened it’s just that I’ve never seen it happen. I can afford but absolutely hate the looks of Mustang, Camaro and Corvette along with any other two door coupe. Even though these cars are bad ass. I would never buy them because I find them ugly. I also realize I am in the extreme minority with this opinion. As are the people that find the new grille design ugly. They are in the extreme minority. I remember when Rolex not too long ago re-introduced the Pepsi with a jubilee bracelet. Shortly after they put the jubilee on the BLNR (Batman) GMT as well. Holy crap you would’ve thought Rolex had asked to sleep with all their customers firstborn‘s or something because the Rolex world shit itself. However the truth is it was just a very small amount of people that were very loud. Both these watches went on to set sales records and still do. Both of them sell well above retail on the secondary market. Truth is it’s a very small amount of people that claim to hate the new grille but this small amount of people are just very loud.

Now let me help you out with a definition.

Controversial= Holy crap they had the audacity to change the grille after 30 years!!!! Jerks!!!

I had the same experience. You mean amazing in a negative way? I forgot how much this forum had been cleaned up. I'd never seen so many worn out pig nosed comments in my life. So tiresome.

EDIT: I went and looked and yup, same experience I had. And there is no discussing anything with those people they are just anti-fanbois and you can't even have a reasonable conversation with 90% of them. Hors Oltre who posted the orange pig face was an endless supply of stupid hate on mine and other threads

Here was my experience for comparison. https://www.facebook.com/Bimmerpost/...25632267491536

Coming at the M3 from a different angle. I'm a current owner of a 2020 M2C manual with about 4k miles and really do love it. However I pine for a modern version of my E39 M5 and the manual M3 is it (IMHO). After owning 5 M's and 1 non M BMW, I cannot help but be drawn to the new M3. Wish the AWD comp was available with a manual. Unfortunately for my wife, I spec one a few times a week on the configurator and it's probably only a matter of time.

As for the front end, I don't have any money in the game yet so my opinion is simply my opinion but I anticipate purchasing and living with it for a few months. If the front end "bothers" me, after market solutions are being developed. At the end of the day, the new M3 is a lot of car for the money and a rare thing for a manufacturer to build today and the cost of a new front end is not a real deterrent in the long run. Hope each of you enjoys your G80 M3/M4 in good health.

There's a reason a lot of people have to take breaks from social media as the internet is an extremely negative place. Auto forums are notorious for hating on new designs. Just look at the hate for the latest X3/X3M LCI which is a very subtle change from the original to the point where hating on the LCI is basically hating on the OG design. I remember when Audi implemented the large grilles that the majority didn't like (I did from the start but I've never been one to look to the past) and today their grilles are twice or 3x the size and people think they are tasteful. You have to give BMW credit for sticking with the design despite the internet backlash as the cars truly do look much, much better in person.

I was looking to pick up a used F8x but the more months that pass by and I see more videos of the G8x the more the F8x is starting to look really dated to me. It's only going to look more dated as the years pass and people get more exposure to the G8x. I expect a lot of people that hate it now will continue to hate it because people are stubborn and there's only a very small handful of vehicles with universally loved styling. I always felt the E9x looked like a chubby car and the least aesthetically pleasing of the generations but plenty love it because it's only my subjective opinion that shouldn't have any influence on how others feel about their cars or what they like. The problem is that a lot of people on the internet feel their opinion matters and they keep trying to force it on others by trolling and repeating their dislike over and over. They need to get over that and grow up.

The automotive industry tends to be a bit adverse to major change especially in the styling department. Remember, everyone HATED the E65 bangle butt but it still sold. Everyone hated Audi's large grill back in the 00's but now you can't even imagine Audi now without their big a** grills. People will get over it and I'm sure the G8X will still sell well. Looks are subjective and to an extent, automotive journalist's opinions are subjective. Just buy what you want and call it day. Who cares what Johnny Lieberman has to say...

My panties aren’t in a wad bro. I’m highly amused. You should’ve made your prediction before they went on sale. Perhaps you did. But if you did it certainly didn’t age well.
