Go drive one before you speak, G8X is one of the best chassis in BMW history.
Agree though that 20 hp bump is more of a marketing gimmick

Maybe it’s just me but I’ve never once got in my M3 Comp and thought ‘what this needs is another 20hp’…

Yeah I am fine w my 23, prefer the laser lights and 20hp can get those gains myself. Really see no diff in this car, very few changes. Steering wheel I'd take, but heck can order 1 when ready.

Be cool to see a pick of the new lights next to old just to be sure. My cut and paste skills such though 😀

Which has always been the point of LCI, minor changes (ie: headlights, taillights, interior).

This is all pretty normal stuff really. Some mild appearance tweaks, a little “official” HP bump and they’re “improving” the car and it cost them very little.

If they’d just left it alone…folks would complain

I'm only interested in seeing the ordering process to see how they are going to implement the purchase of the taillights. I don't think the headlights are bad. It differentiates the car from something as old as a 2021, so, it's the mini evolution, spec bump that the LCI accomplishes.

The 20 HP is actually nice, compared to most companies, that just refresh the bumpers and headlights, and you get zero hp increase.

With the HP increase, and knowing OEMs over manufacture everything, I'm guessing they revised the power delivery, and the transmission shift points, as well. It's going to be another, "I can't believe this only has 20 more HP."

What do you mean by that, for pre-LCI owners?

Thats it I’m done with my 2022 g82.
20bhp upgrade and finally getting rid of those cheap laser lights, at last I real reason to sign up for another PCP.
Or maybe I’ll just enjoy driving the car I have thats way to powerful already, I’ve seen the light 😉

I’m in agreement. Now that EV’s carry higher HP numbers it’s all about a lighter weight package to truly sell the advantage of ICE.

Curious, have you driven a G series car? Have you tracked a G series car? I can assure you that you are completely wrong on the the objective items here.
1. Compliance, if you're talking about suspension compliance, you are 10000% off base here. The G series cars are light years beyond what you get in previous M cars in terms of performance & compliance on the suspension side. They are comfortable enough to drive all day and absolutely kill it on a race track. I've had a G82 with two wheels on the rumble strips at 120+ going into corners. Simply put, outside of a Porsche GT car, Z06 Vette, and a Viper, there's very few cars that can have that compliance on track, yet you can cross country a G8X without a hiccup.
2. Handling is top notch. Again, either street or track, the G8X cars deliver more than any other BMW I've ever driven. Car stays flat and inspires confidence when you're pushing it. Again, this is a street car first that you can track and not a track car that you can drive on the street, AKA any Viper.
3. Feedback through the wheel is great, sure in some modes it is artificial but it's not like you don't know what the wheels are doing. I've driven cars that lack any sort of feedback and its disconcerting, there's plenty of feedback in these cars.
4. Better braking system? I thought the braking on these cars would be crap with the rear being a floating single piston caliper, boy was I dead wrong. If you ever take one on the track, you'll know that if you stand on the brakes, these cars stop, like right now. Can't get better braking, hell you can even get ceramic brakes for fade free fun, if you have the budget for it.
5. Light weight wheels? I don't really know of any car that offers super light weight wheels. The 1000M forged wheels are fairly light weight for their size. Hell, I went with Apex VS-5RS and it was only $3K out the door. Super cheap.
6. The overall design is subjective.

If you get the chance, drive one on the street and on the track, it will blow you away.

I think they would have done that at the X-Drive launch if they truly felt that way. This is really more of a marketing play in my mind. A 20hp increase on these cars is more or less insignificant but it does make the top model look better on paper.

Is there any information out there as to how this bump was accomplished? Is it a real bump (i.e. via an increase in boost like in the case of the CS and CSL) or a "marketing boost" (since the Comp already produces more than 523hp in stock form)?

The M4 3.0 CSL has 553hp and "only" 406 ft lb. Of course, the transmission will only hold for an estimated 30k mls before it needs replacement.

If the M3 LCI was getting new taillights I would have waited for the LCI. The taillights look good but have been the same since it came out in 2019. I really am digging the M4 LCI rear laser lights but always have liked the M3 and 4 doors better.

All the people in this post saying BMW is only saying it’s a 20hp bump instead of actually producing more HP and forgetting how litigious society is these days is making me laugh.

it’s always the same story, non lci owners hating on the new model because it means theirs now is the old model.
