Dealership wants me to sign a purchase order and put down a $1000 deposit

I'm near the east coast and every dealer I've reached out to is offering MSRP. Better than the west coast where they seem to be asking 20% above MSRP, but watching reviews on YouTube where dealers have several in stock and/or are offering discounts has me antsy. 3%+ off would cover transport from any national dealer and then some, so I'd be willing to work with them.

As it stands, my local dealer is asking for a $1000 deposit to secure a slot, and then another $4000 after the build is completed "in order to get" a production number. Since every dealer here is selling for MSRP that doesn't make much difference, although there are a few posts on the forums about the wariness about having large deposits down without a clear production number. Where is the chicken or the egg on that?

I can send you info on a store that will sell under MSRP for an AWD slot on the East Coast if you don't have one already

I hit status 150 over two weeks ago but I am still fighting with my local store over discounts even if I initially signed at MSRP. I am finding out I can drive only 3h and get 6% off. I want to support local as much as I can but fuck do they make it hard sometimes.

I left it in my SA hands. I should hear back tmr. I am not asking for 6 but something as a sign of good faith. I messed up by signing a sales agreement at retail and allowing the car to lock up at MSRP. However I did not have the information I have now. I'll wait and see what they do.

They also have me by the balls as ordering another car from a different store would push a June delivery probably to August or so. Then fall is right around the corner up here in the North.

Can you please PM me the dealer info? I'm on the list for an AWD G80 at two local Atlanta dealers but no deposit and haven't talked price with them, so I can explore more options as I'm doing PCD anyway.
