The SA told me that launch control was now available after the break-in service.

Placebo effect--instead of "gently" driving the car during the first 1200 miles (and keeping it under 5-6k RPM), after the break-in service, you are now able to enjoy it fully and maybe doing spirited runs closer to redline.

I had my service done earlier this week, and when the car was returned to me, I was surprised to see 5 miles tacked on to the odo. I posted this in another thread and someone commented that perhaps there was a road test to ensure all was well after fluid swap.

The word I got from a BMW Technician is that the most important thing of the 1200 mile service is the oil change. The oil from factory is thinner and might have metallic particles from a brand new engine. They put thicker oil and change the oil on the differential. But, horsepower won't increase at all.

This is the only correct answer.

Engine oil, diff fluid, and clearing the 1200 mile service reminder.

That's literally all that happens.

Same here just had mine done. Hear launch control is now active. I’ll have to admit, I did not try launch control before for fear that I would void something.

Unlock is technically inaccurate but used tongue and cheek which many don't get so they perpetuate it as fact. If you obey the break in rules (no full throttle, below 4-5k, etc) you are now free to explore full power. If you don't abide, then there is nothing to see here. That's it. Unlocking stuff has become widely used and no longer has a technically meaning - people like to say it cause they think it's cool, which is lame. You also now have "permission" to use LC, which is active from the factory.
