A base M5 after discounts and negotiations is IMO a relative bargain for what you get. Doesn’t matter much if it doesn’t fit your preferences though.
One aspect that has cooled my interest is the risk of renewed environmental rules including emission taxes etc. on federal and state level. I will be test driving the refreshed Panny when available though. Apparently a lot of work has gone into improving steering feel and precision. My wife and I have many different ideas of our next car’s type and usage. Both the Panny and M5 are in the run as is the G82 and 992. In the end this car will be the car the we just like to drive and spend time in the most every day. Both of us, it doesn’t have to be a car I can take to the track. |

Here is where I am confused, the M3 has changed too much and the grill is ugly. BMW has lost its way, no kink too heavy and too big. The M5 has kept its Style more similar to BMW'S roots and is a V8 albeit its not a dedicated track car. I am saying this for the reason no matter what BMW does, you will have complaining. :

- The M3 is the best trackable driver’s car in its class. - The M5 is the best driver’s car in its class. I bet they still remain true with this latest generation. Does that make the whining excessive? You tell me. |

Hard to answer maybe. The M3 has been murdered on this forum to the point i have actually lost some interest in buying one and I actually like the car. I am not a person who tracks cars so weight to me is a mute point. Then there is the M5 with the V8 and more traditional styling and some say its to boring. I will get one of these cars and am leaning towards the M5 and will not use half of it potential but it is funny to see individuals debate on what most people can't afford or care less about what a car is capable of. Just my observation and I don't pretend to know most of what you guys talk about but I have learned a lot.

I saw the M5 LCI IRL for the first time today at the dealer. Pictures do not do the car justice. I was not impressed with the lci as seen in photos but IRL it remains the only G series car that gives me the “I want it” reaction from a walk around. They also had an M440i parked next to an 8 series. Disappointed to see that they look to be the same size. The 4 looks better than the 8 IMO. Just 25% too big for a tight looking coupe.
The M5 was running since it was being taken out for a test drive. Pretty sweet music emitting from it as well. I need to book a drive myself since my interest for it is renewed |

Yes I contemplate that all the time. The 5 er is a bit more roomie and a bit more lux. Is it enough to justify the $35k or so price difference?

I brought my wife to see the M440i and the M5 LCI today. No test drives just checking how she likes the cars IRL.
First thing she said about the M440i was not about grill(She liked the grill), it was instead She: -It’s too long. Me: -For a two door? She: Yes. She liked the M5 LCI a lot. There we go, next we’ll drive the M5 and if that’s a hit the G82 might be out of the race especially since our build will be $90k including AWD while our M5 build is $110k, our 992 C4 is $115k and then there is the refreshed Panny as well to check out early next year. |

My wife and I have decided that we are getting the M5 if our test drive is to our liking. It’s mainly my influence that we need to take the last chance to get a new M5 as we know them. We’ve owned several 5 series before alongside M3s but never an M5.
We have enough time to get a G82 (or 992) after the M5 before the M3/4 and maybe the 911 follow suit as a PHEVs. Fingers crossed that the F90 vows us enough behind the wheel. |

I had an E60 535i manual before my M3. If BMW could get back to an M5 that is as agile as the E60 AND has a manual, I'd consider the M5. Since they won't ever make this, G80 it is for me.
Also, I had a loaner 5 series a while back. That car felt surprisingly cramped compared to my F80 M3. Was disappointed at what a step back it seemed compared to my E60. |
