Hi All,

I may be one of not many who is scared to ship DME to Femto

… this is why Im asking for advise, reccomendations on provider who can do it.

I read some around Euro Performance (VA) but as Im located in Colorado, maybe there is someone closer. On the end will go with most trusted and reliable source to deliver it to Femto.

I have potentially one other option, as I will be in Germany mid Sept maybe I can in person show up with DME in Finland for personal appoitment… this is what just came up to my mind if this is even possible.

Thank you for all your inputs!

I’m curious in this also. I live in Sweden and thinking about flying to Finland to deliver myself.

I personally used Euro Performance, zero issues.

EPC is definitely who you want to use if you decide not to ship it out to FEMTO yourself. Even if you live a little ways from Virginia, it puts you at ease knowing your ECU isn't halfway around the world unsupervised lol.

Afaik there has not been a single reported case of DHL losing an ECU and the vast majority of delays and complaints come from unnecessary middlemen being inserted into this process by trying to make it sound scarier and more complex than it actually is. You can easily do this yourself, read the info femto sends carefully, fill out the DHL forms on their website and schedule a pickup for Monday morning and you will likely have your ECU back on Friday (maybe plus a day or two for the west coast).

100% agree with you. Sending it out yourself is definitely the way to go. Plus you save $500.

Send it yourself, take the extra time make sure its packaged safely and you will have no issues. I just got mine back from sending it myself and I am super happy I did, there and back in 8 days.

Shipped mine twice, no issues. 7 days one time, 8 days the other.

DHL process is a mildly tedious, but would be real tough to screw it up. Just follow the guide on this forum and use the info FEMTO communicates, they are very responsive on IG/email.

So here we go… officially today started the process. BM3 customROM purchased from Mike, connected to car and activated. OTS maps downloaded from the cloud to the phone.

Femto order placed on your new website order.femtoevo.com

Account was opened. ECU for BMW M picked with option of CustomROM. Added VIN … all fields populated, order placed… and now Im awaiting invoice.

Website is showing status so seems like it should be nice navigation of all steps I need to do.

Looking with big hopes on new gains over my RaceChip box installed as of now. Plannig to move RC into wifey X3 3.0 🤷‍♂️

When you log back in do you see the [Download Invoice] button halfway down the page on the right? I missed it for a few days, but just wired them a few days ago. Then I had to log back in to the webpage to upload proof of payment. My bank gave me a receipt page (without my account info, just theirs) and I used that.

Thanks for the heads up. Right now status is “invoice awaiting”.

When you click the eye on the right it took me to the details of the order and then on the bottom there is history for the order. Extra info says:
“Creating an invoice, please wait for notification within 24 hours”

If they are working Sunday maybe will see tomorrow invoice, otherwise Monday probably.

Im planning to ship ECU on Sept 14th to have it back by Sep 22nd. This is my goal.

Monday update:

As expected invoice was initatied on Monday what proves Femto also needs time to rest and they are not working on Sunday.

I will admit it was easy to recognize that invoice is ready because I received email notification and on the orders website it was quite visible after I click “the eye” icon.

Issue. I could not open invoice on the phone for some reason but it worked when I used my laptop.

All information are available on the invoice to issue the wire transfer. It stil took me like 20-30min just to be sure I do not make the mistake. Used my Chase Bank.

Now awaiting for wire transfer realization so I can download the proof and upload to Femto orders portal.

Ok. So DME is back in my hands and succesfully was installed back in the car. No errors no issue. Smooth reinstall looking carefully into connectors keys to make sure right plug goes into the right socket. Those cannot be messed up unless you are using force. Bigger issue is correct cables placement and order you follow to lay down cable/wire harness correct.

Here is screen shot from Femto and I screenshot from DHL.

Warning: some of you are lucky. My process was way longer both ways where package was kept 1 extra day in Finland and in US package was kept 4 extra days!!! I already had bigger freak out why everyday they are telling me I will get it same day and nothing. Finally after being still nice i ask for a help and some special urgent delivery request was placed on my package and finally same day afternoon was delivered! Anyone who made overall process in 5 days! Wow congrats. My took 12!!!! Quite few gray hairs more on my head!!

Just a quick question about this, the answer of which may be obvious but I just want to be sure before shipping my DMEs to Femto.

Once you receive them back unlocked and install them again in your vehicle, you can drive with them just as before without any issue? Provided of course the OTA updates are disabled everywhere.

Background of my query is that I'd like to get the unlock done myself and subsequently drive with the car to a tuner to get it remapped. The tuner being rather far away so I can't just leave my car there for a couple weeks, so I want to drive there with the car already unlocked so they can remap it during the day and I can drive back home the same day.

You absolutely can drive the car completely normally with the DME unlocked and no tune. My friend got his DME unlocked while his car was getting work done on it and he drove it for about 30 minutes before actually taking it home where we loaded bm3 on to it.

Great, thank you for this info. That makes things quite easy, as I can drive the car in its unlocked state until my tuner has a time slot available.

Why not just take a vacation? Contact FEMTO, give them your arrival date. See if they can slot your "unlock" appointment within a few days of arrival, receive the unit back, return home.

If the process works for your own unit, then make become a courier for others, or haul 2 or 3 at a time , if it doesn't break any rules.
