Painting black parts body colour….

Has anyone painted the black lower trim sections (front corners, side skirts, rear above diffuser) body coloured? In think it could look amazing, but wondered if it had been done and looks crap…??? Post pics please.

Imo, doesn't look clean. Looks like someone added aftermarket skirts i.e cheap looking.

Also it makes the wheels look smaller. Just my perception.

It looks good, but not as good as the black that comes with the car, IMO.

Says you.

If we all followed you, we'd be driving what you drive, in the same colour, with the same build but we don't.

Is the whole thing one lip just dual color? Or two separate pieces?

It's two pieces. They are both prepreg carbon. The bottom tray is meant to be painted. Both of them are one piece lips. The bottom tray bolts to the main carbon lip.

Here's a video of it🙂

Im not suggesting anyone drive what I drive or get the same spec as me at all. We are discussing BMW's odd new gloss black bottom vs it being color matched.

My comment was in regards to you calling color matched factory body parts cheap and aftermarket looking.

To me, the black factory parts look cheap and look unfinished. Unless you have a black G8x, which I did for a few months before switching over to a Dravit one. I think the black lowers on any other color than black looks unfinished and cheap.

The second you put on a carbon lip or splitters, you are left with only black side skirts which look even more out of place. If you like that, so be it. I don't care. But I think your crazy (in a non offensive way) for liking that.

Here is a black g80 M3. This doesn't look cheap and aftermarket to me.

Heres a yellow one with matching body color. Again this does not look cheap and aftermarket to me.

This stock blue one on the other hand looks incomplete to me. That black skirt totally looks out of place to me.

Anyways, you like the gloss black. I like it color matched. But I dont agree with you about color matched looking cheap and aftermarket at all.

But who cares. You like what you like. I like what I like. To each their own.

The bottom picture in blue looks really nice since I like the contrasting black on colour but yes to each their own.

Has anyone painted just the diffuser? Thinking about getting rid of just some of the sea of black in the back. Photo below is from prototype car way back when. Haven't seen any others.

The red one, in my opinion, is the only one in this thread that was done correctly. That said, BMW made all those areas black because those are areas that are prone to scratching and dings from road debris, so it’s easier to hide when it’s black as opposed to body colored.
