Idrive 8 GPS problem with Carplay
Hi guys,
I took delivery of a 2023 M3 Xdrive. The thing is when you use Apple Moas, Google Maps or Waze the location showed is off. If you check the BMW app the car looks parked around 1 block away. Btw the BMW navigation works perfect with the right location. Does not happen with other cars I have. Some help? |

I’ll give this a shot - is this a permanent fix, or just a reset for each time it happens? |

Curious what software version people are on who are having this issue. I’m on 07/2022.21. I hit the button to look for updates, will see if that does anything.
The iDrive reset worked for less than a minute for me, then went back to showing a few hundred feet off from my actual location. |

Same problem on 2023 330i
I'm facing the same problem on my 2023 330i, the reset also works for a short time before the problem re-occur. The car's built-in GPS is working perfectly fine. This is just affecting Carplay and the Vehicle location in the myBMW app.

I've had the same issue twice, while using any GPS app (Google Maps, Apple Maps) on Carplay. Car appears to be 1 mile away from actual location/completely confused.
I deleted my phone from car and re-added, that seemed to fix...for now. Since I'm not the only one here, I'll say something to my service advisor next time I'm in. |

I am having the same problem on my 2023 m3 I just was trying in for my break in service Friday 12/23 and let my advisor know the problem with the gps and they “rebooted” it but it did nothing. It’s frustrating to say the least but glad to see it’s not just my car Definitely taking it back to see what they can do

Same Problem in i4
I have the same exact problem in my BMW I4. I'm pretty sure it is a bug in the iDrive v8 software but it is possible it is a bug in iOS. As soon as I turn off wireless carplay, the GPS on the phone corrects itself.
What is strange is the GPS of the built in nav system is correct. And, according to the CarPlay specs, when wireless carplay is connected, the phone uses the car's GPS signal. Gotta be the iDrive software messing it up when sending to phone. I am up to date on both versions. Does anyone know how to report this to BMW? It is incredibly annoying. |

Has anyone been able to find a fix? Same issue, tried with 3 iPhones (literally bought a new phone thinking it was the phone’s gps). I’m not sure the car is on which version, but it’s Idrive 8

I think this does a similar thing to resetting Idrive as mentioned earlier in the thread, but it only takes a few seconds. After doing this I have completed trips up to 1 1/2 hours without experiencing the issue again. Not perfect, but makes Waze usable again. |

I am having the same issue on a 2023 X7 with idrive 8. Waze has me going all over the place because it thinks I am on the wrong street.
The on board navigation SEEMS ok, however when I go to the BMW app on my phone and look at the car's location the location is WAY off. One time it had me in the river and I was miles away from any water. Shouldn't the BMW's map icon in the app use the car's GPS and not the phone? |

I’ve had this same issue happen for a few days and it disappears every time by rebooting my phone.
Mine was off by about 200-300 meters which is enough to screw up GPS massively. Super annoying and I will be very frustrated if this keeps happening. |

I'm cautiously optimistic that the new IOS update (16.3) MAY have fixed it. I've been having this issue pretty regularly. Yes, restarting the phone and/or Idrive fixes it temporarily, but it always returned. But, after the update, I didn't have any issues on the way into the office today. I'll report back, but grabbing the update is a probably not a bad idea anyway. I'm on a 14 Pro max.

Sadly the new 16.3 update had no improvement in my case. I updated immediately and still had the GPS issue last night.
I still suspect this is on the phone side as there are reports on Porsche forums with the exact same issue. |

Same issue on my 23 M3. It’s quite annoying. I was hoping when I went for the break in service there would be a fix. Guess not.

I had this problem the other day as well. Rebooting iDrive didn't help nor did rebooting my Iphone. I then disabled the "enhanced integration" option in the General/Carplay/BMW menu in my iPhone settings and now everything seems to work fine including the location in the BMW app.

Found a good thread here: https://www.******.com/threads/carpl...accurate.3195/
It looks like the problem is due to Waze using the car’s GPS, which is required for wireless connections by Apple. Specifically when the GPS signal is not strong and is supplemented by cell tower triangulation for example, it seems like the communication of the location from the car back to the phone is not accurate. At least that seems like the most probable explanation of what’s going on after reading those 12 pages… |
