After 3 years in a base F80 and 2 years in an F80 CS, I currently have an X7 loaner while my car is being serviced (and my Fire Orange G80 is at port waiting for vessel assignment).

I cannot believe how superior the X7 sound system is to the F80...how does the G80 compare to the F80? I've seen little to no discussion around this topic.

Everyone seems to say the HK system isn't all that great. Although I haven't seen anyone directly compare it to the F8x system. I always thought that an upgraded car should have the option for an upgraded sound system, but we get the same one in the $46k 430 coupe. At least give us the option to spend more on a better system. I bet the majority of the people would pay it.

My G80 HK is better than my 2018 F80 HK. I also did the Bavsound upgrade on my F80 and the G80 HK fills the space better than the Bavsound upgrade. I should note that I did not do the Bavsound Amp upgrade. It probably also helps that the G80 cabin is way quieter when compared to the F80. If I was being picky, the G80 HK system could use more bass and more tuning in the highs. However, I think the mid-range is good and overall, I'm much happier with it (compared to the F80 HK which was bad, IMO).

How much of an improvement was the Bavsound over stock in your F80?

The B&W system is $3400 in the higher models. It'd be a no brainer option for me if that was half the cost, but I'd really need to hear the difference to shell out that much for that option.

I was extremely disappointed in the sound quality of the HK system. Like really really bad. And I went thru the settings to try out the different options and everything.

I kid, honestly I did not notice a difference between the F80 and G80 but I also would unlikely notice a difference between the G80 and something higher end. My music source is trash to begin with but I've never had any complaints.

There is likely a point of diminishing returns. I didn't have any big complaints with the system in my F82 so I guess I'll be satisfied if this one is at least as good. I would also have paid for a better one though.

The HK sound system in the F80 was complete trash. When I sold it for the 2016 X5M I was going to get the upgraded sound system until I drove the X5M and realized that it was much better in the X5M. It became even better when I pulled that damn fuse for engine sound. Maybe the fuse needs to be pulled from the F80, I don't know.

I’d really be curious to hear an actual audiophile’s/audio engineer’s feedback on the differences between E9x w/EPS, F8x w/HK, and G8x w/HK.

The topic of sound system is somewhat similar to suspension preferences. At the end of the day I wouldn’t trust a single person’s opinion to spend money on a product like sound or suspension unless I tested it myself.

The Bavsound subs add more bass but it doesn't have the richness you get from a boxed subwoofer. The Bavsound tweeters and mids are way better than the stock HK but you hear the difference mostly when the volume is greater than 50%. Overall, it was worth the $1500 assuming you're installing yourself.

Right. In the end I'm just going to have to hear it and decide for myself. I thought I was a bit of an audiophile but also thought that the system in my f82 sounded decent enough, but maybe it's because I haven't heard the better B&O systems to know what I'm missing
