Best valve controller

Hello everyone, stock G80 owner here, looking to make my exhaust sound a little better before I go full tilt with an exhaust system. So I've been looking around at some of the different valve controllers on the market and can't really decide one over the other.

What I currently stuck on is should I get the Dauler or the SST valve controller? Anyone have any input on one over the other and maybe another alternative?

Lastly does a valve controller really help with the exhaust sound on a completely stock G80?

Thanks in advance for your help and input.

I would go with SST. I have the VSC that were prone to be problematic. I have not had issues with it yet after being installed for over a year. It will make it incrementally louder as the valves will open all the way, but if you want more noise look into midpipes. I have the single mid active autowerke and sounds good IMO.

Thank you for your input. I am really leaning towards the SST version. As far as midpipes I am still looking to decide whether doing just a midpipe or saving a bit more to do the full exhaust with midpipe. How do you like the sound of your midpipe? Do you plan on adding a catback in the future?

Hit up mike@x-ph.com for best pricing on SST. I have a TFL axle back paired with AA single mid. Honestly could save some money and not do an axle back as with the valves open it exits without circulating through muffler essentially.
The mid pipe is where you get your sound from. Sound is subjective of course. I believe the single mid provides a deeper clean tone (less raspy). I have not heard in person the equal length version yet as those came out after I installed mine but those are the two most popular mid pipes to date.

It’s noticeable for me. I wanted something just a bit louder while keeping things stock. It’s definitely a deeper throatier rumble. Stock setup it was quieter than my 2018 F80 comp. Now I would say it’s a bit louder.

Sounds good, I will definitely hit mike@x-ph.com up for the SST. Now I'm considering should I just the midpipe to pair with the SST.

Ahh I remember my F80 sound, I don't remember it stock but I did have downpipes on it. Trying to keep this one OEM+ atleast for a bit.

Definitely go with the sst, it has that 50% open setting that no other controller has in case the full open position is too loud in the future with dp/midpipe.

Good point, this is a feature that's often overlooked but very useful

Some confuse cheapest with "best" (different answers for either/or), but there is a nearly identical thread posted a few days ago here if you want to read the responses:

Any preference of valve controllers?

That being said, we use the Awron CANFlap Exhaust Valve Controller. It's the only "Smart" EVC controller on the market that utilizes OEM factory controls, along with some additional features and safety measures programmed in - without the need for fumbling around for key fobs for operation.

SST. I've actually had no issues with the VSC2 as well as long as you don't mount it to the exhaust itself, like the instructions specifically tell you not to do.

No point in getting anything more expensive than the SST.

I think someone mentioned this, but also said installation was a pain.

Sounds good, that seems to be the consensus.

+1 for the SST just installed yesterday from Mike @XPH. Install was easy for my 13 year old, also the 50% open is a good option. Looking forward to the next mod midpipe.
