Do you use the stock nav or something else?

With wireless AA/Carplay the integration is so seamless that I found I'd pretty much never use the stock nav and on most new cars I feel like its becoming somewhat vestigial. With AA Waze still puts almost identical turn by turn info into the HUD. The only place the stock nav seems to win is that it will also put small maps in it showing turns. What are you all using?

The only reason I use stock nav is because when you're approaching a turn, it puts the map up in the HUD and shows you exactly where to turn. None of the other apps do that.

Yea, I agree, that seems to be about the only advantage. I guess I'm willing to sacrifice that and glance over at the screen for the other advantages.

Ever since CarPlay was released, I've been using Apple Maps in my vehicles. Even better that it now shows up in the HUD.

I use the stock nav almost all the time. It's got great integration with the HUD, and routes and rerouting based on traffic is all done surprisingly well for a stock nav. Plus I love the look of it, looks so much cleaner and more sophisticated than either waze or google maps. I do still have waze running in the background for any alerts.

The only time I'll use waze as the primary nav is if I'm doing a longer trip and would like to get a visual of any alerts (mainly speed traps). I still do get some integration with the HUD through android auto, but nothing nearly as detailed as with the stock nav.

Living in Los Angeles, one of the worst cities for traffic, WAZE is a must. As far as I know, and please correct me if I'm wrong, it has the most up-to-date and effective real-time traffic updates.

I actually use both stock and Apple CarPlay.
For long journeys I will use the stock nav with no audio, but for local trips where I am generally looking for a specific address or business I find the accuracy better and the audio output more helpful with CarPlay.

I find myself using Waze through Apple CarPlay, but I wish the instructions came up on the HUD. I'll probably go back to the stock system at some point. When I'm in my X5 I use both. I have my phone in a Weathertech Cup Phone for alerts and use the stock system for navigation. The dash in the M3 is too compact for that.

This. If it didn't show up in the HUD I might use WAZE or stock, but I like Apple Maps and they keep making it better.

On my F82, I've been using the stock nav, but mainly because I was too lazy to set up Apple CarPlay and I honestly really like iDrive.

I'll probably be setting up CarPlay when my G80x comes in, though! I do like Apple Maps

Convenience + HUD = usestock back exclusively. Tried android auto once and gave up. Area had no cell reception which convinced me to stick to onboard.

It does in comparison anyway. It's still decent but I found I used it maybe 5% of the time having sometimes just out of pity for having it there and not getting used. Waze, Google maps and Apple maps are certainly prettier looking.

I'm actually surprised this many people are primarily using the stock nav. I thought waze or apple maps would have easily won by a lot.

Google Maps, but maybe I should try Apple after hearing about the HUD directions.

Run Stock & WAZE at the same time. Run the stock navigation for directions on the HUD. Waze in CarPlay with no destination selected to play on the wide screen with warnings etc.

Will switch to Apple for the HUD as the user universe increases as the speed trap & crap in the road warnings are important to me.

My SO and I both use the stock Nav on our cars (M3 and 530e). RTTI and other features have advance considerably since, say, iDrive 4. I leave my phone out of the mix for everything other than calls...music is on a USB stick rather than streamed, too. iDrive 7 Nav hasn't really ever let us down like older nav systems did (especially vs. the Nav in my SO's 2015 TLX that he had before the 530e...that was awful).

Folk that gave up on the onboard Nav on a previous versions have a reason to dismiss it, but it really is better than it used to be. That being said, I also just haven't bothered to see if Android Auto Nav would provide any advantage (other than Waze for Speed Traps) as the thing gets me where I need to go every time.

One long road trip from dealer to home, and used stock nav. Love it!
Also a CarPlay fanboy, but now home I don't use nav.
Between Siri, Hey BMW, and Alexa that doesn't work when the other(s) are, I just have to hit the button and shriek in a very passive/aggressive manner, and the right result always happens.

There is a gps bug with idrive8 , CarPlay and iOS that is currently unresolved, there’s a few threads about it.
