Help with fixing annoying Buzzing - A pillar speaker
Hey everyone. Looking for some assistance on an annoying buzzing that had been bothering me for a while now.
At around 3000 RPM when driving in a spirited fashion there is a buzzing that is coming from around the drivers A pillar. It is related to the fake sound from ASD, since when I turn off the enhanced exhaust button, the sound goes away. It’s brief, from about 3000-3500 RPM but annoying and repeats with each upshift, taking the fun out of driving with some gusto. It only happens when the car is warm (after say an hour of driving) or after the car has been outside on a warm day. Took it to the dealership, they thought it was the speaker (did some test sounds but never drove it) and replaced it under warranty, but unfortunately the sound remains. If I open the window, the sound goes away, so I think there’s something that when warm and at the right frequency (3000 RPM with ASD on and that speaker is working) it happens. I know I can drive without the exhaust button on, and to be honest it would be fine, except I’m a weirdo/immature and enjoy the burbles which I lose if I don’t have the button on. Would anyone have any idea how I can localize and fix this buzzing myself? I feel like there’s something loose in the housing and because it’s so specific when it happens it’s hard to get the dealership to identify and fix. It’s also hard to record the sound as I’m usually driving and hard to hold the phone in one hand to record it (not to mention not very safe). Pic of location of where the buzzing is coming from in case it helps. Thanks for your input! |

I just enjoy the burbles 😳. I know, I’m a child. I do have BimmerCode and could code off all the sound, not sure if you can just keep the burbles if all of ASD is off and the exhaust button is on? I have an SSD valve controller which help for having some exhaust sound driving it on any mode with the valves fully open and also on startup.

Keep the RPMs in that range and put your hand on that speaker grille and plastic surround and see if the problem is still there. If it goes away, then it’s an issue with the surround not being snapped in to a point where I doesn’t have any minor give. You could try popping it off and see if the clips are right and maybe even placing some small foam tape on the engagement edge to get it to squish down and seat flush when snapped back in.

It's scary the first time, but not very scary after that. Just get a bunch of extra christmas tree clips. |

You could also use a plastic trim tool to push some felt tape in between the door and the plastic trim to see if that helps. Takes no effort to try either.

I had the same issues with a M3 50Jahre and my dealer never found a solution, despite several attempts. From experience, I don't think it's speaker related because mine has been replaced multiple times. It could be something loose, but they assured me that they thightened everything up.

I’ve had 2 ‘24 M4’s and both have been rattle boxes. So many rattles it drives me crazy! I expect this on a 40k car but not a 90k+ car. I have no confidence my dealer can find it as they couldn’t find the rattles in my prior M4. I suspect it’s coming from the screen or the center speaker but having my wife push on certain areas of the dash to see if it lessons has been an effort in futility. My ‘22 X3MC was as quiet as a church mouse. I love this car but have to figure out where these rattles are coming from before I go insane 😉
