Just keep in mind that the earliest that it could come to pass is the next generation M3 in 2028. We've known for some time now that it's not happening for the G80. |

I didn't say it was happening, just that it wasn't impossible based on his comment.

https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1732625 Not nearly as many people spazzing out about the grill there and many saying it doesn't look that bad and it's growing on them. By the time it's released, it's like a fairly good number (perhaps half if not more) will either like the grill, or be used to it, or no longer have a visceral hatred of it. A year after launch, it will be pretty much widely accepted like the Lexust predator grill or the Audi shield, etc. Honestly, this is not a Pontiak Aztek or AMC Gremlin where the looks fundamentally sucked and never ever became acceptable even decades later. I personally found the new grill to be totally fine right from the beginning. |

Do you guys think this is correct? Seems extremely high was hoping around 200 g/km. This almost on par with the m5
BMW M3: Fuel consumption in l/100 km (combined): 10,5*, CO2 emissions in g/km (combined): 239* * Preliminary figures with 8-speed M Steptronic transmission and rear wheel drive 239 gram will mean an extra 47000 euro tax over the car price in my country X3m /x4m has 239 gram too, must be less in the m3, right? |

This is the first time BMW offers M xDrive in the BMW M3. I can't wait to experience it when it's official.

Personally speaking I can't see the M3 front end and grill being fundamentally different to the G20 - exception being the usual M trinkets and styling. It would be far too costly to have a completely different under skin front end just for the M3.
M4 will copy the 4 series front end with the grill and M3 will be 'normal' sized grill is what I expect. This is in line with the mantra of having the 4 series different to the 3 series rather than the 4 being a 2 version of the 3 series like previous. We'll soon find out I guess!

Your M3 is an M4 with 2 extra doors, what do you think it is and conversely the M4 is the M3 with 2 doors less. (you do understand that the change from M3 coupe to M4 was just a marketing exercise don't you?) You can reverse the statement if it makes it easier for you, "The F82 M4 got the F80 M3 front end". Do you understand now?

Hyundai is taking a page out of the huge grille design with the Genesis sedans and coupes. I saw a Genesis coupe today with the huge front grille.

I can't wait to see this thing in person and find out how it looks in the metal because that often makes all the difference but this car's front end styling problems go far beyond grille size. Also, while we're on this topic - everyone who has been commenting that the huge grilles must be important for airflow does realize that the middle of the grilles is blocked off by the front crash beam, right? Even the G20 3 series' grilles are partially fake towards the top because they're far larger than they actually need to be. |

Nothing new, Genesis has had huge grills for a while, even back when they were badged as Hyundai's. If anything they were early to the party.

It's important to understand that the monikers for the 3/4 Series and M3/M4 were only split for marketing reasons. Internally, they are still based on the same development and chassis, hence the chassis codes G2x and G8x where the '0' digit is the base 4-door sedan and everything else being a suffix, or variant, thereof (i.e., '1' touring, '2' coupé, '3' convertible) This internal classification structure has remain unchanged and has been like this since the E9x nearly 15 years ago. The G22 and G82 can wear a 9 Series/M9 badge and it wouldn't change its technical relation to the 3 Series/M3 so long as the chassis continues to be shared. Quote:
Remember, this isn't just about design aesthetics for BMW M. In their development, the entire front end of the M3/M4 was based-on and build around the wider base that is the 4 series. From the front subframe and suspension to the drivetrain/engine, they were completely designed and engineered around that front end to work for both the M3 and M4. It makes little sense developmentally & production-wise to have to then re-engineer that with a G20-based front end design when they can just retro-fit the coupe front onto the sedan. That's what they did with the E90 M3, that's what they did with the F80 M3, and that's what they'll do with the G80 M3.

What happened with the E90M/E92M, F80/F82? Why too costly all of the sudden? |

To me:
First generation test cars based on the G20, most likely M340i. Second and newest generation has the F82 frontend. I don't think G80 will get the G20 front, sorry. https://www.autoblog.com/2020/05/27/bmw-g80-m3-spied/ |
