Rock hit front PDC Parking sensor...
Apperantly a rock hit the front sensor and damaged the Parking system. I purchased replacements Parking sensor, same part number but not Oem, and didn’t work (wondering if that’s the issue), actually had 2 extra sensors, both didn’t work and I restart the i drive system. Sensor seems flush in its sitting, Any advice?

You’ll probably need to clear the codes with diag software… that is, IF the aftermarket sensors are the right ones the system expects to see. They variable may be what’s keeping it from passing its own self diagnostic and reenabling itself. I’d try a code clear first to see if that fixes it and if not, you may need to go exact part number OEM on the sensor or whatever else the codes indicate is at fault.
If you can’t readily find someone to clear your codes for you, you could try disconnecting the battery for 2 min. |

That’s probably about right, wouldn’t be right for them to sell a product that doesn’t work. I’ll restart the battery and see what happens. I’ll keep you posted! Took the cheap route $15-20 sensor, instead of dealer $700-800 part and job.

after market sensor works just fine. Been there, done that. Just try disconnect battery for 1/2 hour / reboot idrive / or clear the code with bimmerlink.

No, that’s just for sensors like the cruise or crash detection sensors, not simple parking sensors. There’s nothing special about these as long as they’re installed correctly like the original one. It’s a simple swap. But the codes for that system must be cleared and your basic OBD2 reader won’t do it because these aren’t engine related codes… they’re module codes, so full diag software is need to see all the CANBUS modules throughout the car.

Take your stock sensor with you when you go. It could be one of the other ones or something else, depending on code, so you don’t want to get caught without parts on hand if it was something else you’re prepared.

Had a friend plug in the bmw computer and it showed that that pdc even when reset doesn’t work, possibly issue with aftermarket sensor, I believe I installed it correctly. So I returned the aftermarket sensor $24. And purchased a used oem, let’s see if that fixes the issue.

Yeah I’m not paying $1500 that’s absurd. I’m handy enough to remove the bumper myself, I don’t have the computer to reset modules but maybe a battery disconnect will work with a oem part. I got one on eBay $50 used oem made in Spain etc looks the same.

That’s probably the same one I just bought. I’ve already removed the bumper for grill and air ducts so replacing the sensor isn’t an issue for me.

Yeah I reinstalled my back on. But it’s easy to do, I’ll just install again, maybe buy air ducts while I’m at it. I don’t mind stock grille don’t need too much carbon.

Because $24 is WAY too cheap for it to be right. Even the physical build is different. It depends on where you bought that part, but OEM equivalents, while they can be cheaper, aren’t always the same.
User a reputable source when buying some of these “OEM” parts and you might not have that issue. Where did you get it from? |

Never mind, I think I found your eBay link $24 ones you probably tried. At least go with something from like FCP Euro or ECS. Sometimes you can find reputable ACTUAL OEM parts on eBay, but I think you’re asking too much for the knockoff bs $24 sensor here.
