is $7,000 too much for full PPF?

Called up a well known and reputable detailer in my area (Phoenix). They regularly do PPF, tint, and ceramic coatings for a ton of high end vehicles in the area and have done a handful of G80s with pictures to prove their work: here

I found out about this place through another bimmerpost thread, as someone got a full PPF from this place and it turned out great. At that time, they were charged $5k for 75-ish% PPF, tint, ceramic exterior/interior. When I called today, I was quoted $7,000 just for the PPF. Full tint would be an additional $850 more, and interior ceramic would be an additional $450. All together it's looking like a ~$8300 quote for everything I want done.

Naturally I am scoffing at this price, it seems a bit high, but I also know we're in a much different place now than we were 2 years ago in terms of the cost of goods and services.

I worry that if I shop around and find a cheaper place, they wont do as good of a job as I know this place will. What do you all think?

I remember reading a few months ago here how one guy went to a place that only did high end cars and cost a lot yet they put some cheap ppf on it that started coming off once anything hit it... shop around!

That's about how much I was quote for mine.
Shop around and you'll see prices of ± $500 from that quote.
But most important of all, is the quality of the installer's work and their willingness to correct any errors.

Yeah that's where I have a lot of faith. I've seen the work this shop has done and they stand by it. I'll shop around but if this seems normal in this current climate, I might just have to grit my teeth and go for it.

I plan on keeping this car for as close to "forever" as possible, so full PPF seems like a good first step to ensure it looks new for a long time.

One thing people might not take into consideration is replacement cost per panel incase the ppf gets damaged, ask for that too.

Good idea, I'm going over to the shop today to take a look at their work first hand, and I'll inquire about the reapplication "insurance". Thanks!

I know PPF pieces have gone up a lot over the last year so not too surprised to see the price you got quoted. The shop does excellent work and they'll definitely do a top notch job.

Also, never hurts to ask for a discount. I got a discount by paying in cash. Then also got a little more off since I had asked about discounts for CCA members, which they didn't have, but offered since they are big BMW fans as well.

Which tint and PPF brand are they installing?

This was last year in Oct and since then price for XPEL PPF have gone up by 15%. But back then I paid $6600 for full XPEL PPF, XPEL tint (including windhsield), exterior ceramic coating, and exoshield (PPF for windshield). My shop literally said ceramic coating is cheap, they generally do it for free knowing how much we're paying for everything else.

I was quoted $7,000-$7,500 for self healing PPF that made your original paint color look matte

Appreciate the response. I actually saw pics of your car in their office today when they showed me other M cars. They gave me a total quote for $9048 out the door with full ppf, ceramic coated wheels, ceramic over ppf, full tint, and ceramic interior. I'll have to ask if they can provide a discount if I pay cash. Even if I could get $500 off I'd be happier.

I was told something similar. It's Xpel clear, and Xpel ceramic tint. I'm going to end up going for it after a tour of this facility. They're all a bunch of Bimmerheads and all the cars in the shop looked immaculate

$7K is a good price and a bit under market. If you like their work, go for it.

I’d say that sounds about right. What film do they use?

On my build sheet quote, I have it listed as: XPEL XR Prime Ceramic Tint

makes sense that for super high quality work and the highest quality materials that it's as expensive of a job as it is. I ended up calling them back to ask if there was a cash discount or any other way I could get it closer to $8000 (official quote was $8600 after I called the next day to confirm). Guy said he'd talk to the owner and get back to me. Here's to hoping lol

I’ve had Xpel on all of my cars for the last 5-6 years and it’s never missed failed me. I always ask the installer to talk me through any points that need extra care too I.e. for pressure washer cleaning.

That's the going rate here in the Midwest for a reputable full XPEL and basic paint correction.

I've had 3 cars with film protection in the past with XPEL. It does yellow and is visible on white cars, especially in hot and sunny climates like Florida. You can't see it as well on color cars. The installer will also tell you they don't recommend taking the car to an automatic car wash, even though many of us probably handwash anyway, you have the choice if the car is not film wrapped. In the past, I did full hood and front fenders, front end including headlamps and turn signals, sideview mirrors, windshield pillar and about 6 inches front of roof, rocker panels and door handles. Cost 10 years ago was about $1,400. To me, it made sense at that cost, but when you're talking $7,000 ranges, I'm going to pass as it is not cost effective, IMO.

Yeah I'm wondering about the cost benefit of getting full ppf. My main reasons for wanting it is:

1). I plan on keeping the car forever. Like forever forever. Things can change but I don't buy cars often and I really want to just mod this car to my hearts content until I get to be an old man.

2). I don't want swirl marks. Seems a bit ridiculous to pay $7k for no swirl marks, but I'm ordering a Black Sapphire Metallic. From what I hear, you get swirls and abrasions on that paint if you breathe on it wrong or look at it the wrong way. In that vein, I want to not have tiny rock chips.

3). I live in Phoenix and it's hot as shit out here with a sun more powerful than it has any right to be. The UV protection the ppf boasts is attractive because I want my car looking brand new for as long as possible.

Now I could just not do anything to the paint, and just get it repainted once the factory paint gets all dinged up, but then I'd have to live with the cosmetic damage and have it look bad until I get it re-sprayed. Then it'll look new for a couple weeks until the process starts over again.

Despite the above points, I'd still rather not pay all that money lol. However if money was no option (sadly not the case), it'd be a no brainer and I'd get it.

Thanks for your input!

I live in Northern California, and I'd say that's the going rate in my area, as well. I have Full STek Dynoshield, and Feynlab Ceramic, heat lamp cured. STek DynoFlex on the outer windshield.

The PPF was installed, one piece, in as many places as possible. Headlights, and tails, removed. Badges removed, and new M4 Comp trunk badge ordered. Carbon OEM wing removed and wrapped in PPF, and trunk wrapped in one piece, and wing reinstalled.

Door handles removed, and doors done in one piece, with no seams. roof and windshield trim removed PPF tucked, and rolled. black window trim is even PPFd. Wheels removed CCB calipers ceramic coated. Wheels airbrush ceramic coated, and heat lamp cured. $7,000.

Original quote was $8,300. I had a 10% Veteran/ LE discount, as well as a little discount for referring 3 other people there, who ended up spending about $5,000 as well.

I had my windows tinted at a different shop, because that shop had always done my tint. I paid an additional $970 for that. So, out the door price, for both, $7,970.

XPel Prime XR Plus, is considered the best tint you can buy for heat rejection. I go back and forth between XPel and Formula One Stratos. Stratos is a little more Gray/Black, while XPel is a little more Black/ Blue. The blue hue is from the ceramic content in the film. It's not a blue you can really even notice, until you put it next to a film that is black/ gray.

In the pictures, the single window is Prime XR Plus, and then my car done in Formula One Stratos.
