The percentage has varied only +/- 3% since there were 20 votes. It is a large enough sample size to make my above statement quantifiable.

The forum members are a much harder sell (very drastic design change and we all have a nostalgic attachment to our previous gen cars). If 72% of the forum members like the car, the % of the general car-buying public will absolutely be higher.
Yes, I agree. It would be interesting to see if that were re-worded a bit. I voted yes but that was more based on my like of everything else, and that I am "ok" with the grill. Maybe if the question would have been "You like the car and would or did buy it, but if you could change the grill design, would you?" I'd have answered yes to that one as well.

I tried to keep it as simple as possible: you like it or nah? lol.

Listen man, this forum is biased so any poll should be taken with a grain of salt.

I have test driven a G80 M3 (would require me to see it in the flesh right?) and posted my review here so feel free to find it on your own accord. At the end of the day I am not adverse to these cars, they aren't what I necessarily wanted from BMW moving forward but it is what it is. The good thing for me is that I have a low mileage, well optioned MY18 6MT F80 so I can keep it, by a G80 or move onto something else entirely and absolutely lose 0 sleep over it.

Right now it looks fine to me. It'll look a lot better when I can get one for 10% off MSRP.

Completely agree my 6MT brother, but the grain goes the other way.
The grain goes against the G80 not with it, right?

Apologize for doubting you. I know for a fact a lot of the people who voted "no" have yet to see it (they posted it on other threads and then voted). So much for the Honor System.

not here to convince anyone to not like it, just find it hilarious how many excuses there are for the design. i've seen it in real life, driven it, my opinion has not changed. does it look *slightly* better in person? yes it does, but that applies to everything. camera lens distortion is real, but the main controversial points dont suddenly disappear in person...

Here goes 61mm which is getting closer to that 85mm human eye (50mm on a cropped sensor)

https://flickr.com/photos/evolveauto...n/photostream/

The car looks noticeably more proportioned here than in most of the smartphone pictures taken at this angle. In most of those the car's mean 'face' looks like it's missing a chin. Here it doesn't.

Hold on brother, I'm not making excuses...i f**king love it. Loved it since the first renders appeared in july, 2019 when we saw test mules with massive grilles under the camo.

I think you and the OP can both be correct. It has its good and bad angles..like every car does. But every person ive ever heard of seeing it in person thought it looked better whether they liked or disliked the design. So there must be something thats not coming across accurately in photos.

yea it seems like your average person just looking at cars is gonna be like 'whoa look at that car that thing looks mean' when they see it in person but BMW buyers are typically looking for a more elegant looking car. the F8X did a pretty nice job juggling both of those design philosophies while the G80 tips pretty heavily towards the aggressive look. Like around here people say things like 'ughhh that looks like an american car' as a negative thing where the general public wont lol Granted everyone loves a good meme and the BMW huge grille one is pretty funny so im not surprised to see it getting flamed by youtube commenters and all those types...until they see it in person of course.

Right. And if you really do hate it that much, even after you saw it, even more so after you saw and drove it, and the front just makes it so you cannot sleep at night, then move on.

I remember the forums back in 2014 when the F80 debuted. All the banter back then... "I'll never drive a car that sounds like that!, NO V8!, Seat light is noisy, DCT is shit, differential is fucked, colors are wrong, you can't electronically move the steering wheel, steering sucks, wheels suck, suspension is wrong, steering is numb / over the top, awful, and of course Porsche does everything better"

Here we are now in 2021 with the G's complaints. Yada yada.

So basically the things they hated back then are now praised as freakin awesome?
I wasn't on this board back then so I have no idea

Just had a look at the F8x thread vs the G8X and it's laughable the comments in there. It's nearly all people justifying their choice and their car really.

Pictures 1ft off the floor of it next to an F8x with comments like
"Since that is stock it really puts the height of the G8X into more perspective, it's got a SUV looking height, kinda like the X1 or something."

They even have it next to the Alfa (attached) and it's lower than that car, but just ignored because it no longer fits the narrative.

The video of it being slower than the carrera when they couldn't launch it but ignoring the newer video of it destroying the Porsche with a proper launch.

Anecdotal comments about it being shunned to the back at a cars and coffee meet up - yeah sure ok. I bet people were drooling over the 6 year old design F8x of which there are thousands of.

I feel bad for them honestly. It's sad to see them picking anything negative they can to try and not feel bad about their cars.

BMW themselves admits that 20% of people like the grill based on their market research. So I wouldn't agree that not liking the grill puts one in the minority.

You must recognize the intrinsic bias of having this poll in the G8x section, right?

Not when there are many people here for the sole reason of sh*ting on the car (perhaps you are among them). Also, as this poll is for those who have seen the car, what other section does it belong it?

I saw something about them acknowledging market research but don't recall that 20% statistic. Post if possible please.

It’s from an AVH quote - hardly a precise metric, but generally I think the sentiment is representative of how people feel. The intent is to be polarizing and generate conversation, and look at us now... we can’t stop talking about the thing

Garage List
2016 BMW M3  [0.00]
I am one of those that didn't like the original pictures, saw it in person and really liked it and thought I would likely be ordering one, now as I cross shop months later (a car in a much different price range), I find myself looking at pictures when doing my cross shopping online, and I end up back where I started again. It is unfortunate the car being difficult to photograph could end up being a deciding factor for this reason.

A poll for people who've seen the car in person would be just as fitting in the general BMW news section which would reach a larger audience of BMW fans, not just G8x fans.

FWIW, I'm here to read about the G8x and impressions from new owners. Found some good threads. I do find it interesting that you suggest I may be here just to shit on it, when I've given no opinion on its looks in my post.
