The issue is that the techs at dealerships I feel like do not take any pride in their work and are only there for a paycheck. They try to get the job done as fast as possible so that they can clock out on time or go on a lunch break. I've taken my car to an M certified service center for a simple oil change and had to wipe the engine cover afterwards because they had spilled some oil on the cover. It's not that they've accidentally spilled oil on the cover that bothers me, that wouldn't be a big deal, I've done it myself, but the fact that they didn't bother to wipe it off after the fact. It's this lack of attention to detail that tells me you wouldn't want these guys installing parts on new six figure cars. I know I am generalizing but I've experienced poor service at all dealerships I've ever been to. BMW, Mercedes, Mazda, Ford. They can't even wash the car properly. It's not the lack of skills that's an issue, but more of a cultural thing.

End rant.

Pros and cons...but OTA and or a plug-in coding would be minor

I would have disagreed with the dealer rant some years back but now I unfortunately would agree. At my M dealership, they can barely keep enough technicians on board and are constantly in the need of hiring. Yes, there are still some guys there for a long time but you never know who will do what work unless you ask. It used to be a no brained for me to have my cars serviced with the dealer even after the warranty, they honor BMWCCA discount etc. Maybe a bit pricier but you had peace of mind. Now, that value proposition is pretty much gone.

The same happened on the sales side once they went to commissions only, barely any faces I recognize. The last years didn't help, didn't have to do any selling besides asking "how much over MSRP will you pay"…..

End rant (x2)

And that it's only 5k more than G8x MSRP. Since everyone thinks the M3 CS is going to start at 95k :

It's called XDrive and not AWD for a reason. You really don't understand the dynamic benefits. It's not traditional AWD.
There is still added weight on the front axle from a driveshaft which you can feel. As was noted in MT on the xdrive m3: "Jonny Lieberman bemoaned the heft, which he swore he could feel the M3's AWD gear added to the front axle"

Im expecting some exterior cosmetic to keep it fresh but they just updated the interior. I don't see them doing major refresh to the power train unless they have a emissions problem.

Ford does an aftermarket tune at the dealership...

Bmw if your listening

You are 100% correct!

My best friend has been a tech for over 25 years.

The way techs get paid forces their hand to not do quality work.

God forbid your car is at a shop that does not guarantee hours for the tech.

He works for LandRover Range Rover…

If a car comes in with a warranty lease repair you are getting minimum effort from the tech because warranty work does not pay well.

He said 10 to 15 years ago before all the electronics and gizmos an experienced tech was valued and paid well… Not any more.

Having just took delivery of the CSL, you can keep your xdrive m3. Don't want the added weight on the front axle. I'll buy an M5 for that.

Not sure if trolling or serious lol so will put minimal effort in responding. This argument makes no sense as the CSL is significantly more expensive than an m3 xdrive and harder to acquire at that. The M5 is also quite a bit more. So...

Maybe M3 GT, make them all British racing green with the same engine spec and gearbox as the 3.0 CSL?

Now I know that I misidentified the model. It will not be an M3 but the M4 CS, in production 07/24-06/25.

A manual CS would be a real win. The CSL is too track-focused to produce with a manual (understandably, it's chasing lap times)

An AWD manual option would be a close second in terms of desirability though.
