LCI for G8x M3 / M4 confirmed https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1950402
So it's getting an official LCI and then a second LCI ?

Agree but if the supply chain still sucks and it takes 6 months to get a car with a crazy interest rate...could be a win. People get some of the updates for a few grand and bmw gets the sale of parts/install. At some point folks may do a not worth 80k to upgrade but could easily justify 5k for tune, tranny, steering, suspension ,diff and awd tweaks with warranty.

Im expecting some exterior cosmetic to keep it fresh but they just updated the interior. I don't see them doing major refresh to the power train unless they have a emissions problem.

Ford does an aftermarket tune at the dealership...

Bmw if your listening
VW does an APR tune at the dealer…

Typically, M platforms follow updates from their respective base platforms and those updates are not termed as an official LCI. But this time, its gonna be different (with an official LCI) and its not clear on how things are going to pan out with longer production cycle.

VW dealers do, not VW.

Any APR tune voids VW warranty (as expected) and APR provides their own warranty with a catch (all mods have to be done through APR and you cannot mix and match updates with other providers).

My bad I meant the VW dealer…

Spot on with the warranty coverage

I actually had the APR tune in my 2015 MK7 6MT Performance Pack; done at an aftermarket shop.

Wish I could of kept that car. I'll end up with another GTI and keep the G80

Holy crap that thing was quick!!!!

I had a 2016 Autobahn with PP and got another 2019 Rabbit as i dearly missed a MK7 in the garage after selling the first one. I got the 2019 for 20% off msrp and it will be one of the best cars i have ever owned. Nothing beats their fun / money ratio.

Agree... X5 and X6m are getting an upgrade with the lci to the new V8
Those platforms already have that engine configuration so the changes are simpler. M cars have never had an engine change in the LCI with the exception of the M2 comp. Although the M2 did not have a Motorsport engine from SOP, so some make the argument that it wasn't really an M car in the first place as a result.

The only reasons to get the Competition is for the automatic.

What black insert?

It's a brand new engine ...still a 4.4 but brand new

Haha ... What's a true M car these days anyway

I'm aware, that's what I implied with the statement that platform already had that configuration. Also the gearbox is new for the 48v system with integrated components drive components.

Lots of great M cars on the market these days. Not the M branded upper power output, models with numbers and an M, but lots of other ones. People have a great selection these days.

Not that I am mad, but how long we are gonna dream about this? Let's just swap pre-LCI M-Sport bumper and call it a win!
Honestly that's what I'd do as I am not sold in LCI's M-Sport bumper.

Any timeframe on the official G80 LCI SOP?
I assume it's 07/23 but who knows
This date is based on?

Has BMW confirmed LCI SOP or is this a guess?

It's called XDrive and not AWD for a reason. You really don't understand the dynamic benefits. It's not traditional AWD.

Semantics only, Just different in that they are referring to it officially as lci in whatever system he has visibility to

In the FX generation the 3 series update was called lci and 4 series update was called LCI but the m3/m4 was not and they received the exact same changes. M3: Tail and interior with 3 series, front end with m4/4. M4: front and rear with 4 series

Don't rush to conclusions about LCIs. The dependency of G80 on G82 parts makes the whole thing pretty complicated. Yes there will be G80 LCI but that's all I can confidently say at this time. We'll get the same trio of mainstream M3 models as we have today. And then the special version in this thread just matches up timewise with G20 LCI2 but it be just a coincidence so please don't read this as a promise of G80 LCI2.

So its literally just another version like Jahre? Or will this be a limited number of cars too?

Ford does an aftermarket tune at the dealership...

Bmw if your listening
You do not want the dealer installing much of anything on your new car unless it's warranty type of work and you have no choice. I don't care if the dealer is M certified, the quality of work will never match that of the factory. It's a nice thought, but in practice, I personally would not want that. The issue is that the techs at dealerships I feel like do not take any pride in their work and are only there for a paycheck. They try to get the job done as fast as possible so that they can clock out on time or go on a lunch break. I've taken my car to an M certified service center for a simple oil change and had to wipe the engine cover afterwards because they had spilled some oil on the cover. It's not that they've accidentally spilled oil on the cover that bothers me, that wouldn't be a big deal, I've done it myself, but the fact that they didn't bother to wipe it off after the fact. It's this lack of attention to detail that tells me you wouldn't want these guys installing parts on new six figure cars. I know I am generalizing but I've experienced poor service at all dealerships I've ever been to. BMW, Mercedes, Mazda, Ford. They can't even wash the car properly. It's not the lack of skills that's an issue, but more of a cultural thing.

End rant.
