Featured on BIMMERPOST.com BMW has two not-so-surprising contenders in there as well. What's a little surprising is which two! I hope you'll enjoy this article https://www.hotcars.com/greatest-six...nes-ever-made/

Why is the S54 surprising? Its one of the best engines ever made.

The S58 is just an engine with turbos slapped on it, its not even a bespoke M engine. The S54 was a masterpiece that got over 100hp/L at a time when nobody outside of Ferrari could even imagine that. It's basically a racing engine that revs to 8,000 and oozes character. Modern BMW engines are super refined, make crazy power and torque but they don't have character like the S54.

I prefer to compare today's Top Ten as it is more relevant to me. I'm not surprised the Porsche and Nissan GTR are among today's the top ten.

Fair. I do find it interesting that Audi and BMW would match each other HP-wise for a while, but BMW sticking with NA and Audi forced induction, then Audi switching to NA and BMW switching to FI. Now everyone is FI.
