Carrying this over from the F8X forums for general track oriented discussions! Feel free to talk about anything track related.

I tracked my previous two F80's and I'm looking forward to continuing this money pit of a hobby with the G82!

The biggest hurdles so far are the rear brakes and still limited aftermarket support, but I have no doubt those will come in time. The pandemic sure didn't help!

Another thing: can we all agree that activating Track Mode should be less annoying than having to hold down a button for what seems like forever?

And, despite the increased size and weight over the F8X, the G8X is so well balanced and telepathic, it's going to be interesting to see how far we can push this platform.

Can you just set your M2 button to put you into track mode and desired settings? You will have to press it twice, but at least you don't have to hold down a button forever.
I actually have never used "track" mode.
I am looking forward to the Nürburgring opening so I can compare my track times to my old M340iX times. Also, I'm going to push these Pirelli P-Zeros to see how they perform.

That would be ideal, but alas, it's not for some reason.

Did you use MDM or any Traction Control yesterday? No difference for me with MDM and Traction Control set to 3.

I was in MDM mode for the first few laps just to get used to the car. I turned it completely off after awhile so I could control the rear end with the throttle directly.

I am in the process of getting my g82 ready for track season. Still quite cold in North Texas.

Ive been focusing on finding the best way to reduce consumable wear.

Camber plates for tires with -3.2/-2.0 fr/R
Several track pad options EBC Rp-1/Bluestuff, and cobalt Racing
New rotors
New Cup2s on 963m frozen.

and the latest being a brake cooling kit from Speed engineering that reroutes the brake ducts through silicon tubing to a replacement dust shield duct housing-

https://www.speedengineering.de/prod...2-komplettset/

On the maintenance side, I had an oil service done at 5000miles and flushed my brakes with fresh SRF for the season.

I really like that brake cooling kit, did they remove VAT when shipping to the states?

That brake cooling kit looks legit. No more Home Depot specials! Is the mounting bracket metal or a composite?

the bracket that mounts to the hub is metal. the duct connection to the outer duct housing is 3d printed plastic, and replaces the stock wheel well duct. The whole thing sits behind the wheel well liner. They claim a 70 degree Centigrade rotor temp reduction from stock

That's a significant improvement!

Side question since we are on the brakes topic. Does the AUTO HOLD function for us ZF8 plebes apply brakes, or is is simply disengaging the drivetrain? I've been turning it off after hot laps to prevent pad deposits. Also, the parking brake is a no-no once again right? It was fine in the F80, but the G80 uses the rear pads as a parking brake correct?

Another delivery..stud conversion kit and titan race nuts from motorsports hardware

I am on the fence here curious what others opinion on studs for tracking are, other than less likely to cross thread a hub (which I did and fixed with a spark plug tap) and ease of swapping wheels.

I had studs for 2 seasons. They definitely help speed up mounting and dismounting and for running different size spacers etc. for different wheel setups. The only downside is some tire shops will not work on them. So a quick trip to get a flat fix on your street wheels means you have to dismount them and bring the wheel to the shop.

It squeezes the brakes electronically, def turn it off. It engages the parking brake at shutoff

Parking brake is automatic at shutoff and engages the rear caliper brake right? I might have to shut down the car in neutral.

Parking brake is automatic if you have auto hold turned on and you shut off the ignition.

I just leave autohold off at the track (and most other times too)

Nice setup. Do you recommend a Differential fluid flush every 10-15k miles if tracking?

I just saw this. I recommend the 14x1.25 to 14x1.5 conversion kit. The lug nuts are stronger and you have a lot more choices

I think Im going to just stick with the bolts. I am not confident with two attachment points and all the thermal stress from heat cycles. I dont need that distraction on track.. a set of lug bolts is cheap to replace every year due to thermal cycling and stretching

First off, I am glad to see another AWD owner tracking! I was worried that I was alone. beachBmmr is definitely head of the pack on information as I am following a lot of his tweaks as well.

For me, I have a set of Carbotech break pads. I haven't gotten to fully test them due to problems with my car when I changed tire size, that another story. I am quite happy with my 4 point roll bar from RSR Studios. I really wanted to run a harness / Haans. Hopefully I will be able to properly test out these break pads soon!
