Boomer, can you let us know what brake pads you were talking about and have you had an opportunity to try them yet? I'm in need of pads now and would like to consider any new options.

LOL, thanks Boomer 2019 Excited to try these. I assume on their website that a quantity of 1 is one set (2 pads), correct? Also, can you provide any insight on the material? Is it a ceramic blend compound to help reduce brake dust as well?

Thanks for stepping up and taking the initiative. I am sure many will be pleased.

One set of front pads or rear pads consists of 4 pads. 2 for each front wheel and, 2 for each rear wheel. The composition is a carbon ceramic material, and the object here is to provide the best on track performance possible. Dusting is not taken into consideration when making track pads, so yes, they do dust. And these wheels due to their design are the most difficult I have ever cleaned. They have even managed to overcome my OCD. I can only stand so much abuse before I give up and settle for OK.

I had to double check today, because this is pretty disconcerting.

Here is the "M Mode" menu and the intelligent safety screen. Notice also the light around the car icon in the dash is yellow in "Sport" mode, but OFF in "Track" mode in the second photo.
…your windows will still be rolling up and your seatbelt will be retracting on track. It doesn't shut that off. Unavoidable. Someone is working on coding it off.
I was thinking of this thread last weekend at the track. I was behind an E90 M3 that broke early after a long straight. I was behind him going about 120 and went hard on the brakes. Got within maybe 2 or 3 car lengths of his rear bumper. Windows went up. I wasn't really that close to hitting him, but I can see how the car thought I was. It was pretty annoying to fumble with the windows to get them down.

Maybe you can "disable" the front collision avoidance with some good ole blue tape covering the sensor? The computer might yell at you but it's worth a try.

It has to do with g sensor rating. I can trigger the precrash by just threshold braking.

Adding a data point to the pre collision avoidance... I've had 2 full track days at High Plains Raceway and no issues with windows up or seatbelts pretensioning or any other safety systems intervening. I'm always in M mode Track and I have the M Drive Professional package with HUD.

Running lap times around 2:03 and if you're familiar with HPR, that is pushing pretty hard in the M3.

More info here:

I can assure you, even in track mode, I can make the windows roll up. Always under heavy braking

I had the windows go up on me when coming up on another vehicle going into turn 13 at High Plains. Big red blinking car on the dash with a lot of beeping followed by windows rolling up and seatbelts tightening. I do not have M Drive Pro.

i've done a few test&tune days, basically all day with like 3 cars max on the track, usually 1-2 cars on at any one time..

looking to maybe get out to june 9th open lapping, and maybe june 30th test&tune day

i will also say, with m mode set in track (holding the button for more than 3 seconds), i have not had a single issue with safety systems. one trackday was a thursday before WRL event on the weekend, so the track was loaded with porch cup cars warming up for the weekend, constantly passing, getting in front or behind me, extremely heaving braking. i am also running at HPR (High Plains Raceway) and running 2:02-2:04 which is a very respectable time for amateur. running cup2s, carbon brakes, speed engineering brake duct system, and i am still having issues with > 8 lap sessions with engine and braking heat. that all being said, i never once had the safety systems come on.. not sure what the main difference is, or if i am just lucky?

Was back out there today at Motorsport Ranch and was actually really surprised at how well the car maintained constant temps this time (except for the license plate frame ) despite a hot Texas track and many back-to-back laps.

During past track days in the G80 it would enter a safe mode (tighten and lock the seat belts, reduce power and roll the windows up without warning) when it got slightly too warm. That happened several times on my last track day but not once today and I’m thinking it is because of my new open front grill and all the extra airflow—the turbos and air intake also sounded way louder.

I just found this today and thought I would post it on some of the threads concerning tracking and brakes of the G80 / G82. Trying to give more people a chance of finding it. I know it's a bit of $$ overkill, but it is the best existing solution to brake issues on these cars while on the track. There is a ton of excellent information in here.
