I would drive the car as normal. It's their problem either way If you don't want to have to deal with the repair then you'd be well Within your rights to hand it back |

I don't understand why BMW is taking so long to give us details and answers. We all need to know how to proceed. |

Calm your tits brother, we still have to see what the official issue is first. I don't blame you for not wanting a brand new rebuilt engine though, many of us feel the same.

they offered you 5 thousand dollars>? Interesting. Are they anticipating it taking 4 months to fix with current parts shortage? Or a value degrade by 5K Take the money. Drive the car for 4 months for free - in the meantime order another car. Trade this one in at the end of 4 months. |

I'm sorry for everyone that's going through this, particularly folks who have already taken delivery (before the news dropped late last week)! I don't yet have a firm sense of whether or not my on-a-vessel G80 is afflicted - "production date" according to VIN decoders is literally 9/23 (the last day of the window).
As we all keep thinking through the what-ifs of the situation, I'm curious what you all think about the following... Let's say someone doesn't take delivery because of the main bearing delivery stop, they get their deposit back, and walk away. The vehicle presumably sits for months at the VPC (or the dealer, for those few cars in that situation). Then gets fixed and sent to the dealers around the country, presumably injecting a few dozen or so readily-available 2022 M3s and M4s into circulation. If we think it's likely that impulse (or delay-frustrated) buyers will pay MSRP for those immediately-available cars in the spring once fixed, then perhaps BMW and dealers will be OK with people walking away now (and a $2,500 token offer now seems consistent with that, when there's probably $8-10k+ profit in these cars for the dealer alone). Someone will pay interest, insurance costs and storage during that time - the manufacturer and/or the dealers - but that's probably not a huge number per affected unit. If we think it's likely that these will be Scarlet-Letter cars, however, then perhaps BMW will be more incentivized to really deal now in order to get the intended buyers to take delivery anyway... |

I, of course, am not looking forward to the fix, but not once has this caused me to contemplate returning/selling/getting out of my car. Just my $.02. |

Based on previous recalls of this type the entire engine was replaced.
Not with a rebuilt engine, but a brand new engine. So looking on the bright side, after driving for 3 - 6 mos affected cars will get kind of a 'do over' with a brand new engine, run in service etc. As this seems to be something that has happened with many previous generations of M cars one can look to see if historically it has resulted in any issue with resale down the road. It doesn't appear that way. just my contribution..... |

Thanks, Knighted and Osiris. I'm inclined to agree with you both. If BMW feels that way too, perhaps affected owners/buyers should be ready for lukewarm incentives to make this "right".
Although like everything else in life, once the cars are fixed (and without scars from the surgery), we'll all probably look back on this and hopefully laugh (while posting great pics of our cars and writing about fantastic weekend drives on our favorite roads). And once M3s and 4s are electric...we'll all be lamenting about the good old days when we even had main bearings... |

Let's just wait and see how it all shakes out (aside from the one dude that was already selling his car over this). But I agree...in this market, I wouldn't expect any MAJOR incentives. Not saying there won't be any concessions made, but those that think they're getting a check from BMW or some other nonsense are crazy. |

I would be *very* surprised if the fix was an engine rebuild. The failure rate due to the rebuild itself, may not be much better than the failure rate attributed to bad bearing shells without a rebuild.

Coming from a sales manager, you can't be pissed. YOU TOOK THE CAR HOME. I don't know why in your right mind you would take the car knowing there is a stop sale. To answer your question, this is a stop sale, not a stop drive.
