They're not really the same type of car. E63 is a nicely interiored fast highway cruiser. If that's what you want then a M3 isn't the car for you and other options like a M5 should be looked at.

I'm guessing you're cross shopping these because the 2019 E63s depreciated like hell.
It depends on what you're looking for out of the car. To expand on strohw , they're different car types. If you're looking for for an all around package, new tech, new looks, go for the M3 X-drive. If you're looking for a v8 bullet train with nice interior (IMO the interior looks a bit dated compared to the M3. Some could argue it's a more "classic/classy" look.) I've never owned an E63s, but I have owned a C63s and c43. I've driven the E63s, S63/65, and AMG GT. The sound is what makes them fun, and you're not gonna hear a lot of it in the E63s due to its premium insulation. Driving dynamics wise, the G80 M3, x-drive or not, blows any of those options out the water. In addition, if you care about depreciation... the E63s you may be looking at hit its initial depreciation already. The 2023 M3 obviously will be brand spanking new. I personally don't care for depreciation, but if you do that is another factor. |

Have or had both ... not all my comments are comparos but they are from what I remember as an owner.
2018 Edition 1: Engine- M177 (I think) hot V- responsive and fluid but needs a better tranny Exhaust- rowdy hot v8 growl Trans- MCT that was sluggish and jerky at times Cabin- pretty on the eyes with tight seats Tech- slow as fuck and only optically ok IMHO as an owner Looks- matte black paint with ccbs and bucket seats; it was pretty mean for a mid size sedan Steering/Chassis- felt overprogrammed with ok feel. The ride was like a tank running over skulls terminator style. If the roads were perfect the car was planted like no other but it was not very comfortable. Apparently they fixed the air suspension in 2019 or 2020 but my car was hardcore. G80X: Engine- S58 begs to be ripped- more rpms over and over- fun and rewarding Exhaust- needs a mod for sure in my ears LOL but its ok- AMG better easily Trans- the ZF8 is fine and well programmed from a TCU perspective. Its not a DCT or PDK but better than the MCT Cabin- normal, not excessive with good ergonomics and feel Tech- better than the AMG but of course as its 5 years younger (got my 2018 in Nov of 2017). The Idrive is easy and fluid compared to the old MB system Looks- I love the G80 bulging fenders and stance and I love the nose Steering/Chassis- a marked improvement over the prior iterations of M3/4. Steering is more communicative with decent feel for an EPS variant. Its fairly point and shoot for me. The dampers are dialed well with the stock springs and even my MSS setup. The provide enduring compression and rebound while keeping the tires on the ground in almost all scenarios. I guess since the OP just landed a title and nothing else, this is more for the good members who have posted here after him/her. Personally I got rid of my Benz in 10 months while I got rid of my first G80C only for a 2nd G80X which says alot. My 2018 Edition One: G80X:

I own a 2021 E63s wagon and have driven the G80 M3. Both are charming in their own right, but I chose the E63s wagon for a reason. The engine to me is more special (V8 vs inline 6), it sounds better, it's a wagon so it's inherently much more practical (35 cubes storage in the wagon vs 13 or so cubes - probably my biggest reason), more/better steering feel (M cars outside of the M2 tend to have numb steering), more luxurious and less conspicuous. The people that know it love it, and those who don't know what it is just find it to be a nice car. There isn't any drama associated with it, which I kind of like. Is it as good around a track as the G80/G82? No, but that wasn't a consideration for me because in day-to-day driving there is minimal if any difference and even around a track the difference isn't as pronounced as some people think (compare the Nurburgring times). The ride quality is good on the facelift model as it is in the G80/82. I never drove the pre-facelift models but I heard they weren't very comfortable in any setting. In terms of transmissions, I prefer MCTs/DCTs in my performance cars over torque converters and I'm willing to trade some low speed jerkiness (which improves significantly after 5K miles or so) for the more rapid and violent shifts. And in terms of the depreciation, the wagon doesn't depreciate anything like the sedan. During the height of the used car shortage, folks were buying 2018 wagons for the price I paid for my brand new one (~$130k). New ones were selling for > $170k (>$40K ADMs) with the right color spec (usually some shade of gray). There really isn't a car that can do as much as the E63s wagon. It's known for being the jack-of-all-trades car by those familiar with it. And it's super rare - typically MB only made between 250-400 wagons a year, which obviously helps its long-term value. The 2019 tech (pre facelift) is obviously older, but the 2021 tech is much better. I will say that I do not care for MBUX and prefer BMWs iDrive.
That being said, if I had to pick a sedan between the E63s and M80, I would pick the G80 M3. I picked the E63s because I wanted a wagon and if a wagon isn't an option, then to me the charm is significantly less. I'd rather pick the smaller equally quick sedan than a larger sedan since there isn't the same benefits in terms of practicality and body style of a wagon. The G80 M3 is a really good car on its own right. It's cheaper, performs exceptionally well and has a nice interior. For sedans < $100k, it's hard to beat when you look at everything it offers.
