Reminds me of my year in grad school, when a couple classmates from wealthy families sported 3 Series. I stepped up to BMW when I could afford it, and haven't looked back since. They say "never meet your heroes," but if you get a chance to drive an E46 in great shape, do so. It may be slow by comparison to our G8x, but it's "peak M3" for driving feel and involvement. I'd not want one for a daily driver (it's a digital world these days), but as an occasional escape, it's wonderful. |

Right out of college I bought a brand new Dakar Yellow E36 - best car I’ve ever owned, and one of the most fun times in my life. This buy was a big part nostalgia - I saw a yellow one and thought it looked amazing. Plus, my kid fits in the back, I looked hard at the 911 lineup and that didn’t work.
The price was right, too - I have the price of a couple exotics tied up in an aircraft, and the ongoing expenses there are high. Someday I’ll move on from that and buy something ridiculous, but for now the M3 is the right combination of price, fun and practicality. The current marketplace also made it an easy choice - at least here, anything bought at MSRP can be sold for a profit. It’s something I could play with for a while, and potentially offload without massive depreciation. |

The new s58 engine is the best engine BMW has ever put out… I have an X6m right now and there is no other SUV that performs like it… I destroyed most cars on the road… there is nothing like M period… I got my wife the G80 and after driving it, I new I needed to get myself a G82… easy decision

Simple: Manual transmission, modern tech to back it up, fast enough without being utterly silly, and under 80k US. Versus the Blackwings, it was actually available when I was buying and even with the nose, I like the G8x interior AND exterior appearance more than the Cadillac.
Also, it was green. |

I didn't settle. It's something that I wanted and with the crazy used car market last year it was a no brainer for me.

I've seriously toyed with the idea of a 911 for a number of years. But I see that car as the "nice day" car, take it out when the weather is nice, and park it in the winter. Call me lazy, I just don't want two cars.
I've had number of Audi's including an RS4, but TBH I didn't really like the performance and the reliability of the Audi's. Mercedes styling just doesn't do it for me, too much like "Dads' car" (Even though I'm a Dad, ha!) I moved to BMW a number of years ago, from a 335, a 535 and two M550's. I like the BMW mix of performance and design, and the cars are solid in terms of fit & finish, reliability, etc. I seriously considered an M5 but my current 2019 M550 is already too big for me. I wanted a car I could throw around a bit, was unsure about the M5, it's a BIG car! (I know especially the Competition is getting great reviews!) So... I thought the M3 might be a good fit for me. I was looking at the M4, but something about the lines of the car just doesn't work me, I like the proportions of the M3. I'm hoping to see my M3C in May or June 2022, and I hope it is the right fit for me. |

I didnt read the other posts yet so I apologize but the word SETTLE (used in the title) is 10000% not used in my choice. And I do think I have some really nice cars.
The S58, out side of sound, is arguably my favorite engine outside of the S85 (Ive had 12 M's). It begs to be rev'd and punished. Add that to the amazing balance, chassis, dampers and vastly improved steering and I ask anyone to find me a car, on the ground readily buyable (relatively speaking), in this price point. As much as I like the F93 M8- I choose the G80 almost always when it comes to which BMW I drive.

^^^ this.
And the fact that in my view, big and heavy and all, the G80 is the culmination of decades of the iconic M car, and with it likely being the last "real-engine" M3 and my long history with BMW and M cars, I had to have it. Plus (and my flame suit is on for this one), personally, I think it's one of the best looking sedans in stock form of all time (from a mean-ness perspective, if you catch my drift - huge exhaust that's not just empty tips bolted to the bumper, huge hips, concave OEM wheels and ability to go even moreso in the aftermarket, factory ground effects (love the oem rear diffuser), great body lines, and... I don't even dislike the front end anymore ) It may not be a "beautiful" car like a Ferrari 275 GTB/4...ok, it's nowhere close... but in its own way, I think these new M3s look fantastic. |

Although I don't need another car, I've been looking to get into a fun but practical car for some time. Was initially considering an M2 Comp, but I can't justify paying more than sticker for a used vehicle.
A buddy let me borrow his G80 M3 Comp for a couple days and there was just so much to love about it. I can't quite put my finger on why, but I actually enjoyed it more than the M2C I've driven. After playing with the M3C for a couple days, I couldn't help but come to the conclusion I would enjoy it even more in a manual, so that's what I placed an order for. There isn't much else offered in a manual that checks as many boxes for me, so that made the decision that much easier. |

I think you will love your manual G80. I had a very similar experience as you describe, with my 2020 M2C. It was very fast, handled extremely well, popped and burbled in sport plus, and particularly with the retro interior (CD player and all), reminded me in many ways of my e46 M3 (which was absolutely one of my favorite cars I've ever owned, and in many ways I wish I had kept it). That being said, I found it (the M2C) cold and clinical, and nothing about the car really excited me after the first few drives. I sold it approximately 3 months after I bought it new, at essentially no loss courtesy of the early days of the pandemic.

15 years of Vettes--loved my '18. Saw the trade in value was up $5000 from last time I checked. Don't like the rear of the C8; those available are highway robbery from the Stealers; wait 18 months for one at MSRP? Pass. 911s too expensive to justify for what would be purely a fun car. And, would never buy used anything. Loved the looks of the M4; power was outstanding; interior typical BMW luxury--high quality but still sporting. $2500 Veteran incentive. Paid MSRP - the $2500; Dealer paid shipping from CA; excellent trade on the Vette. No other car appealed to me. ZL1 didn't have the style; Hellcat fast but doesn't handle and is way overweight. Had just what I wanted almost exactly as I would have ordered. Couldn't be happier.

+1. Enviable stable, Vic55. I've had multiple cars at various points in my life, but these days, the simplicity of "one and done" suits me best. The G80/G82 are great all-rounders (with xDrive in northern climes).
BMWs have grown over the years, such that the G80 is the same size as the beloved E39 5er (and the G82 is within a whisker of the E63 6er). That's a size I can live with, for everyday use. |

In 2020 I jumped on the EV bandwagon and ordered a Tesla Model 3 Perfomance. Yes, it has a decent amount of power and the acceleration is pretty impressive but it started to get boring over time. I am a BMW die-hard fan since my childhood. Just an example: in the late 80s our teacher in middle school allowed us to put posters on the classroom wall. I brought a huge BMW M3 E30 poster which was pinned next the movie poster from Ferris Buellers day off. My motivation for ordering the M3 was that the combination of inline-6 plus rear wheel drive plus manual minus hybrid will not be around forever. I have to keep the Tesla until the leasing expires in Dec 2023. The M3 will be the fifth car in the stable and will only be used during summer time. So this makes the Tesla my winter beater for the next two years.

Was not even on my radar as I hated the looks initially. Having owned an E36 M3 (loved it), E60 M5 (probably one of the cars I think most about) and an F80 M3 Competition (Nardo Grey - did the European delivery experience and cherished it) I am a huge fan of the BMW M Division.
I sat in a rear drive version of a G80 M3 and in person I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Fast forward a few weeks and after reading about and watching video's on XDrive I was hooked. Will be trading my GLC 63s in. For an SUV its a really nice ride. I also have a 570s as a weekend car but I still feel like I need an M in my life and the G80 X Drive is it. Ordered a SBM with Orange interior, dealer says it will be hear by the end of the year. |
