Let's start a petition to send to BMW (i feel like this has been done before). Who will commit to spending 120k minimum on a G81? Anticipated delivery in 1yr +.

These $130k performance wagons are the automotive equivalent of an all season tire. It does a lot competently, but nothing at a top level. I think most people in the US who have this kind of money and don’t frequent Cars & Coffee will just buy a performance SUV.

Sure but at the correct price. I wouldn't pay a 35k premium over the sedan for it (what you're implying). G80 xdrive is currently ~85 to start, so call it <90 base and they'd sell a ton of them (obviously with options price would be higher).

You’re killing me man. This just made me relive the first time I heard Du Hast at some weirdo live sex show in Amsterdam where I watched a man with way too many pig tails in his hair do things I’d like to forget to a woman built like SpongeBob. |

This is the best looking version of the G8X.
That is by no means a compliment to the styling of the G8X but wagons just look cooler. It will never come stateside because the base 3 wagon was never sold here. You can't even build one out of a chassis because again, the base 3 wagon does not exist here. BMW will cater to dollars. Not enthusiasts.

BMW hasn't exactly set the world on fire with the F30 wagon sales, the E46 wagon sales (did they bring the E90 here? I don't recall.) The only wagon they have sold here that I can remember having any modicum of success was the E61. But that was before they had 18 different SUV's to take it's place. Back then you only had X3 and X5...that was it. Nowadays, I think the X7 has totally stolen that market. So....I'm not sure BMW has seen the sales success with previous generation wagons that would give them the confidence that it would succeed here. Unless you're saying it would because all those previous wagons were the cooking versions, whereas this is an M wagon? I mean, cost to federalize the bodystyle is in the millions...you need to sell a LOT of units to cover that. BTW, I'm a wagon fan and, crucially former wagon OWNER. So I'm not throwing shade, just trying to figure out reality. I personally would have loved an M3 wagon 10 years ago when my kids were small. Now, we have a Cayenne for longer trips and no longer need a wagon. And while I do love them and think they are awesome, it weighs more and is larger and if I don't need that, I don't want to make the (small) sacrifice that's there just for the cool factor. |

That's completely unrealistic. It only costs that much more there because the wagon is already sold in many other forms. In order to bring to the US, it would have to be crash tested which means every M3 sold here would have to bear that cost. And crash testing a vehicle runs in the multiple millions of dollars a year cost.

It did well in Europe but won’t do well here. Not many Americans are going to spend 100k on a Wagon. I think Station wagons have a negative stigma here. Most Americans would just rather buy an SUV than drive around ina. Station wagon.

OP: your car is 🔥 . Also I’m absolutely shocked you were able to shoehorn 3 car seats back there! Impressive.
I daily an RS6 Avant, and just 2 car seats in the back feels like a tall ask. Someone said these wagons do everything well, but nothing great. To a large extent it’s true. But the Avant is hands down the best car I’ve ever driven from an all around stand point, despite my small gripes (small gas tank, lack of adequate cup holders, no easy-to-get-to “Max AC” button (must have in Miami)). One of the crazy things about the car is how much attention it draws, as though it’s a supercar. Especially in Miami, where you see 4-6 Urus’ (Uri?) on the road every day. These wagons are rare and spectacular, and it shows in people’s reactions. All that said, if BMW were to bring the touring stateside I would strongly consider getting one, in Imola Red! |

Everything the wagon can do can also be done in an X3M, plus more. Like towing. Whereas a Z4 M Coupe with the S58 engine would do things no other BMW can do.
