No 8 -> 8.5 upgrades.
Yeah, they mentioned moving from Intel Atom to Qualcomm chips which will run both 8.5 and 9 it seems.

Try to move the widgets on the home screen to a different location, its very laggy, but that's the only place i've seen lag in idrive8

Just placed an order for MY24 M4 Vert which will be ID8.x, wonder if it will ship with 8 or 8.5.

From watching videos on these, in order to get myself familiarized with the system, I've only noticed lag when presenters erraticly move around the map or pinch-to-zoom the map - and thats on both, 8.0 and 8.5. Neither are smooth. Seems perfectly fine for everyday use.

It will be a simple update for id8.
Moreover, I may be able to get it earlier than official update planned.

@bwoodahl wonder if the hardware in '24 M4 vert will be upgraded to allow for 8.5 (and hopefully a little beyond) software upgrade.

I’d 8.5 will be even better I’m sure.

However, one thing I want is integration with the steering wheel buttons. I’m driving a vehicle. I don’t want to have to look at a screen to change the radio station, etc. there’s a ton of buttons on the wheel and I just hope they make the integration with the wheel useful.

I hate to say this because people are tired of hearing it and you kinda sound like a broken record, but I like how Porsche does it, for real though.

the circular wheel/button can flip the screen you are currently viewing and you can change radio stations, view your car’s stats and all necessary info right from one button on the wheel.

That’s been the way since early 2000 in many nicer cars because it is great. I actually like the screen and id8, but I don’t want to be forced to pull over or lose sight of the road by having to look across the dash just to change the radio station.

I know they are proud of their new screen and it’s a nice one, but if they don’t have the wheel able to control a lot this then it’s a fail imo.
