Then came the 2021 Chevy truck behind him, which did not stop on time either, causing the 1998 truck to hit my car a second time.

Considering we were going at 80mph and the force from the two hits, I expected my rear bumper to be completely damaged. I was pleasantly surprised by how sturdy this car is.

Cons:
the car got damaged

Pros
no one was seriously hurt

That’s horrible but glad you’re ok. Could have been a lot worse at 80mph I suppose. If only other cars on the road could stop as fast as this M4! Doesn’t look like there’s extensive damage….hopefully easily repaired.

Mike, seriously. As some one who does what he can by himself this thread is like gold. Can’t thank you enough for all the detailed info, videos and feedback.

I replied here b/c I’m curious about your catted down pipe install. Before I watched the install video I was leaning towards tossing the car up on the lift and doing it myself….the video convinced me otherwise.

Earlier in the post I think you mentioned removing the down pipes b/c the loud volume of the start-up sound? I bought a set of catted down pipes to be installed with my stock exhaust so for now I’m keeping the 2nd cat & dual resonators. Eventually I’m planning on the AA mid-pipe w resonator so I’m curious what your exhaust was flowing thru when it was too loud for you?

I’m also concerned about a CEL with these catted down pipes. I’m sure you got a CEL somewhere along the way with all these installs but do you recall getting a CEL after the down pipe install?

TIA, really appreciate the videos. Still plenty I want but can’t afford to do yet and these videos are a touchdown for a DIY’er like me!

Looks like I’m going to spend some time on this thread today. I watch mod #20 of the mid-pipe replacement and saw the label which got my 1st question.

Was that an AA mid-pipe with x-pipe being removed in video mod#20?
If so, was the mid-pipe w x-pipe too loud for you?

Thanks again

I replaced the X-pipe with the single midpipe; it was not because it was too loud; I just wanted to try something different.

I prefer the sound of the single midpipe over the x-pipe, its got a deeper mid-range tone.

Active Autowerke catted downpipes do not trigger the check engine light; I removed it because once paired with a high-flow midpipe and/or axle back, the cold start is too loud for me.

Once you pass the cold start, the car sounds perfect.

07/24/2023 Mod #22

We've recently transitioned from the Active Autowerke (AA) Version 1 to Version 2 Axle-Back exhaust system. Both systems deliver similar audio performance, except Version 2 has a more refined sound during highway cruising RPM.

As of the last 3-4 months, all AA exhausts sold by us or directly from AA are Version 2. There's no external marking on the box or the product itself to indicate which version you received. The only way to distinguish between the versions is to open the muffler and inspect it internally.
