I think you'll be very happy with that color. In my opinion it's the red equivalent of Tanzanite. Very dynamic and deep. I think it could maybe be a touch darker towards wine red, but if I went with a red it would still be my first choice. Damast and a couple of the others are darker, but don't have the same metallic glean in the light like Tanzanite / Aventurine (at least, going by the visualizer - I haven't seen any in person).

I HAVE been shopping wheels but haven't decided on which ones to get yet. I'd like to keep the OEM spacing and whatnot, but it seems like every aftermarket option I look at and like ends up being wider and more aggressive. Which isn't necessarily bad, just not quite what I want. I've got my eye on these Vivid Racing D05s (which half of you are probably sick of hearing me mention and are screaming at your monitor "just get them already!!!!") at 20x10 and 20x11 vs the OEM 19x9.5 and 20x9.5 (I think that's the OEM size, I'll have to double check). I also haven't decided on a square setup potentially.
I didn't decide on the final color until I had actually seen both of them in the sunlight. Went to my dealer and they had an M440i convertible and an M840i in the AR and there was an X5 in the TB. It came down to choosing the AR over the TB, because I have had dark (black actually) cars before and they are more difficult to keep clean. I liked the slight Orange tint of the AR in the sunlight. It kind of differentiates it from other similar colors from other cars makers. Wouldn't want my AR M4 to be confused with "Camry Red".... lol
I chose the Estoril Blue for my M-Sport 440i because it was an uncommon color (at the time). A person in our BMW CCA Sonora chapter has a Tanzanite Blue 4 series, so that was another reason for me to choose the Aventurin Red.... Don't want to duplicate a color you know. I think the AR will be more unique. I like unique.
It's funny though how when you get a new car, in any color, you all of a sudden notice that or similar coloron more cars around you. So, like if you have a blue car, you don't notice the other colors as much. But your eye seems like it's drawn to any blue car around you.

Hah! Yeah it was getting dark so I didn't hit all of them but IYKYK. More pics will be coming from 35, Mt Tam, Mt Hamilton, Monterey, etc...plus probably just some random ones like in front of Google, Meta, Zoom, Adobe, Cisco, Roku, Netflix, Microsoft, I dunno. There are tons of photo opp sites around the bay area. I'm debating on getting a drone for some shots - Crystal Springs reservoir has some great looks but you can't quite get your car close enough for the shot from the ground.

I'll also be doing some highway 1 cruising and of course Alice's here and there. You should come to the meetup on the 3rd!
The drive from alum rock to Mt. Hamilton down to mines road towards Livermore is one of my favorites! I would definitely be down to meetup but unfortunately don't have the M4 anymore.

Excellent write up and congrats on the new car! TBII with Tartufo is such an amazing colour combination. Along with those wheels too! You're going to absolutely loooove cleaning those wheels. I know I sure did.

Regardless, continue enjoying your beautiful car safely! Cheers!

I had to do a double, triple, quadruple take on this picture. It looks like you have big scrapes on your side door, but I'm pretty certain it's just the reflection.

Looking at those side by side pics, I'd get the M4 just for the front end! The M4 grill may not be gorgeous, but the 4 series egg crate grill - or whatever it is - really doesn't go well on the car. And, the hood of the M has much better features to blend toward the grill. Just my personal opinion.

Congrats on the M4. Enjoy!

Tanzanite is a really dynamic color and I love the way it looks under different lighting. Also loving the way the seat logos light up - I wonder if you could code that to the ambient lighting...also wonder if you could code infotainment / dash color "themes" to coincide with ambient lighting selections...? Hmmm.

Similar pic, but in bright daylight (no filter vs filter)

No filter random daylight pic with a Maserati:

Same pic, instagram filter (looks better on phone than PC screen IMO):

What a frikkin awesome color combo.

You know what? I don't even care about the snout on the front anymore. You have to drive one to appreciate it and you'll completely look past that. Owning one? Even better.

Enjoy man! Enjoy it to the fullest. What a beautiful car.

I went from a C8 to the M4CX - Never could warm up to the M4... Sold it 6 weeks in and made a good amount of money on it.

Now I drive an iX and really like it - I really think I'm too old at 62 to appreciate the M4 - Glad you're so happy with it!

We've had a few Tanz M4s, one with silverstone (2021) and a few others that I recall. Don't recall it with Tartufo. But congrats on the new M4!

I'm super surprised you thought the M440 was 80% of the M4C. I went from an M550 to an M5C and they are completely different cars. I would say the M550 is 10% of the M5C just in how it drives, its responsiveness and feel, how tight everything is.

Anyways, I'm in the Bay Area as well, east bay, hit me up for any fun rides. Enjoy the ride!!

I think it’s a matter of verbiage perhaps…like, the 80/20 rule if you’re familiar. I’m not saying there’s not a significant difference.

Edit: also keep in mind I’m still in the break in period so I’m not tracking it or anything yet. I do fully expect the major differences to show themselves more on the upper end of the limits in every sense of that.

M440 is a legit ride my neighbor has one.

As you mentioned after you spend some time in the M4 the differences will be quite noticeable.

My experience is a little different. My first BMW was an F80. After having that car for a year I had to get a M340 loaner for service.

It felt soft and muted. When pushed it just a bit I could feel the effort the car was making to keep pace with little driving requests.

Note; I'm hyper sensitive and will notice 3 psi change in tire pressure. Perhaps it comes from my race bike days.

I'll bet $1.00 (An amount I can pay lol) after 1 year if you get back in the M440 the differences will be very noticeable.

Again as you mentioned that last 10% is major.

You'll have an OMG moment… The level of grip, turn in and electronics is unreal.

Beyond thrilled for ya man; congratulations!

I checked MyGarage this afternoon and found out that my car is now on a ship headed for Port Hueneme, by Oxnard.
I will call BMW Genius tomorrow to find out which ship I'm on. So excited!
Then it will be trucked (I assume) to my dealer in Tucson. Could possibly have my new M4C RWd by Christmas!
Can't think of a better Christmas present to myself.

Once you have the ship name you'll be able to track it's estimated date to landing at Port Hueneme. Typically it will take about 28 days or so though. Then it will need to be off loaded, then inspected, and loaded onto a truck. Depending on how backed up the port is it could take a couple of days to a couple of weeks to get onto that truck. Then it will take a couple of days to go from being onto the truck to landing at the dealership.
