It's already a classic. And better looking than anything before it. Even the rear.
Yeah no

The general consensus is the opposite of this
The 20+ thumbs up I got this weekend says otherwise. Chris Harris said in his article that kids seemed to love it.

I agree with you, it's not a classic look in my eyes. But I pulled into a BMW dealer this weekend to check out an M5 CS I was thinking of buying. A bunch of kids ran over the check out the CSL and asked why it was here and I said I was here to check out an M5 CS. They were like "why would you want an ugly car like that when you have this."

As Chris Harris said, BMW is on to something with the younger generation.
Kids love it? Not sure that's a plus lol. With that said I'm 64 and I love it.
I'd say it's a plus. The kids swarming around it are the very people who will be thinking "I so wanted one of these when I was a kid,". Guaranteed future classic if they love it!

Let’s hope their dad doesn’t also stop by the Porsche dealership.

100%. Hugely underrated channel. It's gotten better as he's expanded his scope and become.less obsessed with all things AMG.

I'm also very envious of his collection of cars.

The general consensus from where? How many makes "general", and how many within that "general" category will ever have actually owned one of these?

Has anyone ever thought why the 3.0CSL and the E46CSL became so successful after such an "ordinary" reception to begin with?

My friend, neither I, nor you are gifted with the crystal ball; only time will tell whether this will be a classic or not.

Guess who will be buying these in 20 years as "classics"? Those same 20 kids giving you the thumbs up.

That is my first and only glance into the future of this car; watching how 12-year-olds look at it today.

Who cares? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If he loves it, that's all that really matters.

Far from it. All the people have going on that still talk about how it looks are just part of the me too movement. "Oh, it's ugly. Oh, yeah, me too."
Looks are subjective, you are absolutely entitled to liking it.

But the general consensus really is that the car is not very aesthetically pleasing. You'll find variation to the extent of dislike, some hate it some find acceptable.

But to say the car is generally liked I genuinely don't believe, you'll only hear that in echo chamber environments like this sub.

So they can buy a car that looks almost exactly like the last one?

Ha exactly, not sure kids can afford a $140k car. BMW the e46 was my poster car when I was their age, so I bought this.

Eh, I'm not so sure the "general consensus" is that the G8x looks bad... I see most of the hate online coming from BMW enthusiasts of prior generations and a decent amount of well-known reviewers like Chris Harris, Throttle house etc (but again they have prior gen BMW bias/experience, too).

While I have a G80, I don't think it's a pretty car in the traditional sense. I think it looks great but it's not a classical beauty by any means... At C&C events, the comments are pretty split 50/50 in my experience. The comments and reactions from the general public I have received outside of car events at places like the grocery store, gym, etc. have been pretty positive for the most part; especially with the younger crowd like someone said above.

This is all anecdotal of course... but to be honest I don't really care what other people think about its looks. I don't keep cars long enough lol I'll enjoy the G80 for another 1-2 years and then most likely venture back over to Porsche to scratch my 911 itch.

That's the only time Ive ever heard a general dislike for it, is amongst owners of previous models. At the same time, it's same as me saying this is my first BMW because, this is the first time it isn't the slowest, least powerful car in its class. I wanted an F82 when they came out. I went with a C7, because it was quicker, faster and handled better. And dammit BMW for making me do that. I didn't really even like the car. Had it a year and it was gone.

Some still talking about looks ? The G8x is like one the those beautiful girls that's got a not so perfect aspect but compensates everywhere else where it's important and you just can't help but fall in love with her when you know her well, can take some time to overcome the small thing you like less but over time after spending some time with her and living different experiences you just appreciate her more.

Agreed. I have very little-to-no interest in AMGs. I watch his BMW content religiously though.

I do enjoy watching him trash the EQ line Mercs too.

I am an transgirl, and this is so true for me. If you put me being trans aisde, then I think G8x are not that bad. Sure, some of us can't let go of the grilles. But are we gonna let XM slide for that? It has the LARGEST grilles ever! So compare it to M3/M4 G8x and then XM, which one is larger then, huh?
