Defective instrument panel

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Has anyone else ran into this? It looks like the damn screen is already delaminating. Have not touched it, and today I noticed in the sunlight it has all these ripples. Going in tomorrow, manager said she doesn't think it looks right, so I'm sure they'll take care of it, but I don't really want my car torn apart. But hey, it's a bmw, something is always wrong.

You never know. That plastic frame may just pop out and the screen could just be held in by a couple clips or screws. But then again it's a BMW. Keep us updated.

Yeah I hope so. The part itself looks pretty easy to replace, just getting there.. Who knows. Thanks for the response. I'll keep you updated

If it's like the majority of the IC's - They'll pop the dash off, then the trim and it should bolt out.

Sorry to hear and good luck with the repair.

My dad recently had the similar issue on his SQ5. It was an easy fix, but it took him about a month to wait for the parts shipped from Europe. Hope they have back up parts in the US.

To remove/ replace the display you first remove the center trim with vents starting at the far end of passenger side.

Then remove the screws holding the infotainment screen in place, followed by the driver display. Simple enough.

For most IC's that I've seen/worked on - yes. But all depends on what it looks like when the dash is out. Ie, is the cluster behind or under more parts.

For your sake my friend, I hope it's just a dash and trim. Anytime I see dash's torn apart, it makes me want to cry. I'm OCD about noises.

Hopefully you're correct, because I'm ocd too, my heart is crying thinking about tearing it apart lol. This is what it looks like out of the car (same part for reference) . Doesn't look too complex

Yeah, same issue here, and car only has 1,700 miles. Looks exactly the same as yours. I'm going to ask about having this replaced under warranty as well. Can't wait to hear the rest of how it goes and good luck.

It's in for PPF & ceramic coating this week but I'll snag one when I get it back. It's identical to your pics though. Banded waves of discolored lines rising up about half an inch from the bottom of the panel. Disappointing for an essentially brand new car.

Yeah, it's very strange to say the least. Luckily my service manager didn't hesitate to just order the new part and didn't really question the situation. Just hoping the car goes back together properly 😂

Ive had both screens going out with an error, black squares, speedo going out, and overlapping text. Two visits before it was replaced but they did start "a case" with BMW engineering on the first visit. That seems like a hardware issue and not software like mine so hopefully they jump on it quicker. These screens get replaced like hotcakes according to the service reps, it won't be too hard.

So, this shows at least one advantage of the new free standing display - easier to swap out if/when it fails.

Only question will they have it in stock? Or is it several month wait from Germany cuz they are too busy putting them in new vehicles?
