The Craziest Allocation Story You'll Hear

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Man what a journey it was to get this car
Without this forum, it would have never been possible.

I placed an order at BMW Toronto December 2021
They said a February allocation
February became March, April, May, June, July, August
I couldn't believe it was this hard to get an allocation
So I came onto here and asked around and quickly saw
people getting allocations with orders placed after mine
I WAS FURIOUS
I called my dealer the next morning and cancelled my order.

I called every single dealer in Ontari that same day
One in Oakville had a purple 50th and I was THIS CLOSE to taking it.
Until they were disgustingly arrogant and rude.
I would have to do ALOT of changes to the car.
Wasn't fond of it but hey better than nothing, right ?

All hope was lost until GOD sent me an angel.

Literally 20 minutes after getting off withe phone for the 50th jar
Scrolling this forum he messages me and saying
" I had two allocation, cancelled one see if you can still get a Sept build" ... on the EXACT same day I cancelled.
A month later and maybe it would have been too late
A month earlier and he wouldn't have cancelled his allocation.
I called the second he gave me his number and BAM 3 days later I had an allocation in a difference province.
From 9 months of no allocation to a car built two weeks later to shipped and ready 2 months later.

This story truly was "a miracle"

Thank you to everyone in this forum who helped me along the way.
I hope you all get your vehicle soon and enjoy them.

I pick her up Tuesday

I had my allocation locked in, build sheet emailed, production date, and all in writing on email and text. The dealer then pulled it from me at the last minute and claimed it was already taken the day before I firmed everything up and was their mistake. And keep in mind this process had been going on for several days finalizing my purchase and all details.

Long story short, I lit them up phone and text and then decided to call the GM and let him know what had happened as well as giving him the courtesy of knowing that I was calling BMW NA as soon as I got off the phone with him. GM was not aware of my situation and said give me until noon tomorrow to get back with you.

Car back to me next day, no apologies. I HATE ALL stealerships. Well, except for one Porsche dealership. Anyways, trust none of these folks.

The "several days" is what did you in. A sales guy can only hold an allocation for so long before the other sales guys and sales managers get impatient and give it to someone that's ready to make the deal right there and then. Especially on a car like the M3.

This is how its done. When people say, "It's finally here, after 14 months!!!" Yeah, no, this was their situation. If you walk out of the dealer, without a production number, you're just on a waiting list, for a dealer that may not ever get an allocation. Cancel and find yourself an allocation, just like this.

Perfect OP.

Agree! I was going through the purchase process and everything with the client advisor. Almost everyday had contact by them getting with me on finalizing things here and there as I was pushing for certain finance rates, etc. I started to get concerned when I was asking about putting down a deposit and that was taking too much time. Also asking for my production number and was told that it takes a few days to get, but not to worry. This is when I got even more concerned as from what I read on here, but with all that I had in writing, I felt somewhat ok. Boy was I wrong lol.

Basically they gave my allocation away to someone local and a good customer to them. I was out of state, but tough shit. Not my problem. This poor business practice caused 2 upset customers in the long run.

Yeah, that's no good, at all. Some dealers run a sneaky program. Rest assured, when I walked out of the dealership, this is what was already on my phone screen, 14 July 2021. If you don't walk out of the dealership, like this, you just have a dream, in a computer. 112 Status.

Problem is 95% of the time the dealer will not have an open allocation waiting for you.

Congrats! I find the allocation system in the USA is really poor / unfair. Should be treated at least taking into account the waiting time for some people to counterbalance it a bit. Or it will always be the same dealers that can live of it.

I just saw 2 brokers on FB, they have 5 cars between them, at $899 broker fee. Cars at MSRP. 4 M3s and an M4.

I'm looking, again. I think the admins are deleting them. The FB page admins, not BP. I'm pretty sure NextLvl was one of them, I think he had 3 M3s at MSRP. $899 broker fee.

Nice car!!

Black with white interior.

Reminds me of the 23 G82cx I saw today at the dealership.

I think this M4 has been there about a month now along with the M5 behind it.

+1. Once a dealership receives an allocation, it’s a “jump ball” among client advisors’ customers as to who can commit to their order first. A waiting list might be kept and honored, but whoever’s first on that list has limited time to commit, especially if the production week isn’t that far into the future.

I had been awaiting an M3 allocation at my chosen dealership. Whenever they only received allocation for a single G82, I was advised late that day to make a decision (whether to switch my requested body style, then spec it, then make a deposit) quickly, before other client advisors got wind of it and offered it to their customers. I made a decision within an hour, and that allocation was applied to my order early the next morning.

You want a dealer to have an open M3 allocation? Not sure what planet you've been on for the last couple of years but that's not happening on Earth.

I had a production number day of for both M4s I've ordered. When I was looking for an M3, they had an allocation ready for me. MSRP each time.

M4 is understandable...but M3 isn't. That is far from the norm.
