I'm pretty sure it's insurance companies that share information with Carfax, not body shops.
I used to work for Carfax, this is the secret sauce they don't want to share.

I'll say for certain that they used to have a department that would solicit body shops to share information.

Insurance companies do share info, this is a fact.

Fun tip: When ordering a part like a fender from a dealer or online, use a vin that isn't yours.
Thanks for validating- pretty harsh how Onesie told me I was lying.

What a stupid comment. Only women get into accidents? Really now?

OP, FWIW, I've never had issue filing DV claims with the insurance carrier of the other driver. Never even hired an attorney. This was in NY. All I did was write a letter, printed KBB values for the car with and without an accident and requested to be paid the difference. They didn't even argue.

I feel you, my 2022 x5m 1 and a half months with 1,500 miles got rear ended too. So sad but it will be fixed . The dealer charge for my repair $14k but their insurance will pay. Nice color by the way it is color that i want to order with my coming I4 but i cant have matte paint i guess. Good luck.

I just checked my car fax now, $40 which sucks but this has me thinking about my accident. Mainly because I'm most likely going to buy out the lease next year.
I leased a 2021 bmw 540 m sport fully loaded in bernina grey in Dec of 2020. I had the car for about 2 weeks and was driving very slow about 5 mph past a double parked fresh direct truck. As I was in the middle of passing the truck the driver didn't look and slightly turned into me. It left 2 giant gashes in the driver and driver rear doors. Anyways they paid for everything through their insurance . The body shop replaced both doors and the paint is pretty much a match as they did a great job. The body shop I used has all bmw, Aston Martins, Mclarens etc.
So when I checked the car fax now it shows no Accidents. Hopefully you find a great body shop and no reports to car fax. And enjoy that beauty.

OP tells us that the neighbor "wasn't paying attention to where he was going...." It was a dude. So shout out to us careful lady drivers!

But, seriously, so sorry to OP. You can see we all are offering support. It's a gorgeous ride, and you'll be back tearing up the roads again soon!

Some people live in multi-unit apartment or condo buildings where they have to park with the hoi polloi. Shocking, I know. OP parked his car and his idiot neighbor hit it. Guy's got enough to deal with without getting questioned / blamed for where he parked the car.

How did I attack you?

You said body shops don’t pass info to Carfax, only insurance companies do.
I said this isn’t the case.
A member who worked for Carfax confirmed Carfax gets info from body shops (and more).
You claim you’re being attacked.

Carry on dude, have a great day. Cheers

Love how this type of thread just spirals out of control.
I don't think "it's only a car, move on" comments among others that are just stupid regarding woman and the like are welcome. I'm sure the OP understands that it's a first world problem, however this is an enthusiasts forum unless I'm mistaken. If you can't come here and vent without someone digging you up I guess you don't tell anyone.
Anyone who's making out they would just brush it off maybe hasn't been on the receiving end of new (or any age) car damage. I have and in that moment it's a big deal, not only because you've probably worked hard and aspired to drive something so special but also the disruption and time it's going to take sorting out. Never mind the fact you might never have your car in that 'perfect' condition once all this is sorted and the carfax issue.
He's not put it out their for people to provide a silver bullet solution, he's just reaching out and is obviously disappointed.
OP good luck with the repairs it's far from ideal but fingers crossed you get everything back to normal.

Fortunately it was just (as opposed to a rear quarter hit) the door, front fender, and possibly rocker panel.

You say your color is Sapphire Black Metallic? If so, it should be much easier to locate take-off panels (from wrecked G80s) and the route I would take as opposed to having bodywork/blending done. No matter how skilled the bodyshop, they can never replicate factory paint.

It was a stupid comment - my wife is a safer driver than me so I guess I shouldn't assume. I meant that the driver likely didn't see the car in rear view and was smaller so possibly overly focused on rear mirror…. forgot to check side mirrors, but you are all right, anyone could make that error of course. Forgive me?

There is good reason why females insurance rates are lower!

I don't know this and didn't say I did. I gave an explanation of why everyone may not just "park in their garage." Reading is fundamental.
