"Fortunately, the grip is unfathomable and the steering feel is so linear and tactile, which make the car remarkably easy to trust."

"With standard Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, it holds onto its massive speed almost to the point where you feel your cheeks departing from your face under aggressive lateral acceleration."

I'm curious to see what else they do with this platform as plenty of other versions are to come.

Are plenty other versions to come? I think we are getting maybe 2 more special edition M3s. Maybe a M2 but that remains to be seen.

I'd hope there is more to come than that but I'm not so sure. Plus next M4 is an EV.

Awesome to see so many killer reviews on the CSL. I'm expecting the CS to be great as well.

I would think so as production ends in 27 so plenty of time to do a few more editions.

I wouldn't say that ....there will be a 4door M EV but will it be an m4...thats to be determined. I would say hybrid but a full EV doubtful for the bext gen.

Alot will change between now and 28 and I bet Bmw will do power of choice and give markets options as not everyone will be for ICE or a EV as each market is different and by then many folks in power will change and with that goals.

The EV your referring to is an I4

No I was thinking of this:

https://www.bmwblog.com/2022/08/15/n...w-m3-electric/

The next M5 will still be hybrid. M2 remains ICE until 2030. M3/M4 will give us an M3 CS xdrive and a now rumored special edition in 24/25. The final model years have historically not had an another special edition as the older model wraps up and development focuses on the new model.

BMW is investing a lot on building batteries and Neue Klasse. They will still build ICE for emerging markets and cheaper cars but they are all in EV for premium cars.

Problem is the current M3/M4 got a 2yr add on so they have time to do additional updates to keep it fresh as originally the current M3 was supposed to punch out in 25.

All in to meet current demands but ev's aren't the answer yet and in time consumers and governments will see it.

Having driven now almost 700 miles. I have to say that I agree with the reviewer regarding how fun and easy the car is to steer with the throttle even with cold tires. There is confidence and precision where you can get exactly the slip that you want. The rear feels light and playful in hairpins, but still feels stable and tied down in long sweeping corners. I also agree that you have to be a somehow experienced driver to be able to experience what this chassis has to offer.

Next M4 is a hybrid not a pure BEV.

Will be interesting to see what happens as we run out of materials to produce billions of batteries (that need to be replaced at some point) and the massive power needed to charge them. Then realize the net gain of these planet saving cars was not all that great. Seems like kind of a Hail Mary right now.

I highly doubt the next m3 is a full electric car. What people don't realize is there isn't enough lithium ion in the world for everyone to have an electric car and the infrastructure in all countries isn't there to support everyone having one. You'll be seeing gas m3s for a while .

Obviously a very favorable review. All in all the reviews for the CSL seem to be binary. Either the reviewer "gets" what the CSL is trying to do or doesn't. Of course, none of these reviews likely matter to the scant 1000 people who will actually own the car. . It would certainly be fun trying a CSL and M4C back to back.

Needs to be reviewed as a car. Not as whether it's worthy of a CSL badge or not.

There's a lot of talk of steering feel here. But what really has changed to the G8x? There is no hardware change AFAIK. So is it just lighter wheels, cup2s, and some software?

See the ETK part number thread. Every front and rear suspension component is different except the front struts. Two levels of front bracing and new rear bracing, new seats, carbon hood, carbon trunk, carbon transmission tunnel, CCBs and forged wheels.

I think ultimately there is less of the perceived feel you get in the M2 CS and M5 CS that were dialed in by great software work. That's my opinion.

Makes sense. IMO wheels are a huge difference, going from OEM to something lightweight. It's impossible to not feel a massive increase in responsiveness.

The overall protrait is starting to look better and better, I feel like our own perception of the car (as owners) will spread in the right manner.

I can't wait to put the *Spec Cup2s I have in storage after I go trough the Rs. I think it will become the ultimate BMW driving (auto) machine.

Its back to the autoexpress review by Steve Sutcliffe. The car's one perceived immediate weakness is its steering in relation to the M2 CS and M5 CS. Those cars had software tunes that weighted the steering and gave the perception of steering feel. 230 miles in, the M4 CSL does not have that. If it requires everything be on sport plus + Cup2s, then we'll just have to find that over time. Also means that even in comfort, the M2 CS and M5 CS are getting artificial weighting. The M4 CSL steering on the other hand, is extremely light. Possibly also tuned that way to give the perception of lightness. Coming out of the M2 CS into the CSL, the M2 CS feels like a much heavier beefy car by comparison.

Everything else about the car is a masterpiece. You even quickly realize the gearbox is pretty amazing, it has to be the best ZF Auto implementation so far.
