That’s a great setup. The ET20 rear wheel from the rear does squeeze on the front with a 285, but people say it’s very close.

With an extra 5mm of clearance you’ll have a nice safety factor.

This thread needs a bump because it’s helpful in determining offsets.
I have a question on why everyone jumps to a 11” rear when only adding 10mm more tire?
With the 285 on 10” front it would take a 305 on 11” to keep the same sidewall stretch. But people end up on a 295 to prevent rubbing.
IMO a 10” front 285 and 10.5 rear 295 is almost square with the same sidewall flex. But I haven’t seen it posted.

I’ve had the same thought. I’m still breaking my car in but I’m already thinking that the reason BMW puts a 275 front is to induce push/under steer because they know most people who buy these wouldn’t know wtf to do if the ass came around (not meant as an offense to anyone, it’s a powerful/capable somewhat mass market car though).

I already have a bit of a hypothesis that the car would handle better with less front tire. I’m working on my summer wheels now and I’m thinking I’ll keep 9.5/10.5 and run 265/285.

Everyone rushes to go wider without thinking about whether or not it’s going to actually improve the car IMHO.

It’s different on AWD cars obviously but for a RWD performance car to only have a 10MM difference front/rear is bizarre to me.

I’m running 20x11 in the rear with 315’s.

Nice. That would be perfect for an 11". What offset wheel?
And I assume the car is low but not slammed?
285 on front with a 10" wheel?

I have been searching and i think iam going to run the following specs below. Still working on the offsets. This will give me the same od as factory, so should be good.

20x10 F 285-30-20 Conti
20x11 R 295-30-20 Conti

Why the 11" is my question. If you look at the tire specs on Tire Rack the 295/30-20 is better matched to the 10.5" wheel.
You're only adding 10mm wider tire with 25mm wider wheel.
I need to look up some good sidewall pictures to see if the 15mm more stretch is noticeable from front to back.

The 11" rear wheel is primarily for looks. It does make a visual difference. I will be ordering BCs 20x10 and 20x11 too. The front and rear tire will only be 10mm wider than OEM. This is for looks alone. Of course the added contact patch would not hurt traction but it is minimal.

My car is maxed out on V3’s. Pretty low. Had some fender work done to get them to fit. Offset is +20

My friend has a 2013 M3 that he tracks now and then. He talks about the underster issues. One day for fun he swapped fronts and rears. He ran his best lap time to date.

You're saying reducing tire size on the front will help understeer? That's the total opposite of what will happen.

No. I’m saying a lower rolling diameter up front would aid in mid corner chassis rotation.

Broader point was about people arbitrarily putting much wider tires (front and rear). It wasn’t super clear.

The wheel color combo is superb. One of my favorite wheels.

This is a good thread.

I just ordered some custom wheels somewhat using your chart to figure out offsets. Keeping the stock tires, too many potholes in the Bay Area ca.

Hey guys looking to order a set of wheels. What offsets should i do if i want the most flush fit to the fender. Doing 20" up front and 21" in the rear. Does this make sense:

20" x 10" with ET12; Michelin PS4 285/30/20
21" x 11" with ET14; Michelin PS4 295/25/21

This tire ratio gives me OEM ratio. Was thinking going 285/30/20 and 305/25/21 but that gives me ration of 1.1%. Don't want to push it

Currently on my stock wheel/tire setup I'm running 18mm spacer up front and 15mm in the rear. Slight rubbing in the front on full steer but I can tolerate that.

I am ordering wheels with those exact specs. I was told running a 285 up front there would be a slight rub. If I run a 275 there is zero rub.

I heard the same but I’m worried about the 1.1% ratio. The running I’m not too concerned with. I’m running 18mm spacer up front with some rubbing in reverse on full lock. Other than that it’s fine.
