2.3k miles. Software version 07/2022.50. First owner. Looking for any actionable insight.
Music/nav stopped & right screen went black. Was black for ~30 secs then white BMW text appeared for ~1 min. The next bit is hard to articulate. All of a sudden all of the exterior cameras started to non-stop flash on the right screen. Imagine a camera in the middle of 4 windows and the camera spinning at like 1k RPM. This went on for what felt like 5 mins but was prob only 2. Eventually the white BMW text on a black screen reappeared for about 30 secs before getting back to the normal UI, which was when I was able to re-begin music & nav. I was on the highway about 15 mins/miles into a short trip. In a typical week, I probably only drive the M3 10 miles. I have been pretty nice to the car so far. Eg, I'm waiting for at least 3k miles to track it and probably 15k miles before adding horse. The only thing I've done wiring wise is mirror tap my radar detector, which I did at ~1k miles. It's this something I should bring up to the dealer? Forget about it and consider it the nature of the beast? Look into something? Any insight is appreciated. |

Where you using carplay at the time? If so, it probably crashed and rebooted the system.
Looks like you have some land around your home. It wouldnt hurt to check your wires for rat/mouse damage. Its probably carplay crashing. Few others here have reported issues with ID8 and carplay. Hopefully thats your issue. GL!

Thanks, you two. The mice theory is concerning given all the wires I'd imagine are in this twin turboed computer on wheels.
I was running Android Auto, which can also get clunky, but this phenomenon was a first. If I hadn't been on the highway I would have pulled over and restart the car. I'm just glad to hear I'm not in new territory. |

I have a more important question though, why would you wait until 3000(!) miles to track the car?
It's perfectly good to go right after run in service, trust me it is made to drive hard |

The break in period is the minimum mileage needed for the car to initially settle, expand/contract, create healthy wear to pave the way for future healthy wear.
The manual says something to the extent of "it is not recommended to use launch control before 3k miles." This just tells me that the engineers felt there needed to be more wear/expanding/contacting on the car before putting it through very high stress stuff. They explicitly cite launch control, but I thought best to wait to track as well. PS, the break in service does not "unleash the full power of the car". I'm not sure why every dealer says that. All the power, including launch control, is available off the line. I would never correct them, but I did say "I can't use launch control tho, right?" They said I could. I said but the manual. And they were like, let me check... oh shit ur right. |
