Salesman: New car weighs 3,879 lbs, Sir.

Customer: But, but, isn't that an increase of nearly 300 lbs?

S: Uh, yes, however, that's just 12% more.

C: 12%! Exactly! Too much. *slaps roof of car* What is this, an M5?

S: Well, Sir, but the power is up by 21%! It all cancels out.

C: Ehh, I don't think so. What else is new, then?

S: It's got this M Drift Meter which rates your drifts; the maximum is five stars. Your 2016 doesn't even have CarPlay! Yesterday on a test drive, though, someone got 4.5 but he, sadly, sent it into a ditch...
My hope is BMW went after the Alfa and not the Audi/Benz.

Alfa weighs over 3800lbs, but some reviewers said it felt 2800lbs on a back road and was much more fun and agile than the F80. Engineering magic! TBD
My hope is bmw did not go the Alfa route where the cars cost $5 after 2 years because apparently they can't go 3 miles without throwing a check engine light... no matter how good that car is technically; its an utter POS

There are more twin turbo 6 cylinder cars that sound way better than the f80 than I can count lol.

I'm actually a fan of the s55 noise to an extent. I give it a 6.5/10, if the s58 was a 7.5. Nothing from bmw really sounds like AMG level anymore or the SVR exhaust noises from UK (jag and RR)
The N63 sounds better or as good as any AMG out right now. And it isn't a "M" motor
Good point, is it just me or the n63 sounds better than the s63? (F90 M5 engine)

Can't believe that people are asking for more photos when GIYF. I'm interested in:
1) How are the upshifts at WoT at (or near) redline? Any delays in pressing the paddle and engaging the gear? Are shifts smooth or rough?
2) Any understeer during fast cornering?
3) Is the car stable under hard braking from high speeds?

Needs cloth upholstery (RIP) and way too much silver trim in the interior.

Looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts about the car.

If the M5 is anything to go by, points 1 and 3 should be good. Number 2, won't know until someone has serious seat time and gives their road test.

Thanks for the info, OP.

I know earlier you said you were partial to the DCT...how does the slushbox "feel" in comparison in both normal and spirited driving?

So true. I think it doesn't matter if you like the design or not, we can all agree from the specs that this is not the same kind of upgrade when they went from E9x to F8x.

This gen is all about appearances compare to before.

Like they said on TG, give the styling to the italians and leave the engineering to the germans.

Not sure how those reviewers come to that conclusion but I've driven the Giulia extensively, it's a good handling car but definitely doesn't feel like a 2800lbs car in the canyons.
Once you swap back to a lighter car you can immediately tell the difference was very noticeable.

What else do you call one second after going WOT from a stop and not much happens? That’s lag all day in the X3MC. That is without launch control though.

Well said. Feels like no matter how many times this is reiterated, some will never get it.

Never driven a car where the extra power was able to cancel the weight. You will always feel the weight once you take a curve.
If it's a freeway cruiser only then I guess it's irrelevant.

I think "feels like a 2800lbs car" compared to the F80, that feel heavier compared to the Giulia Q. And I can confirm that, I don't know what's the reason but the Giulia Q seems much lighter than it is, despite being heavier. Same for the Stelvio Q compared to the others SUVs.
Of course it's not like a real 2800lbs car, that's obvious.

I get the same feeling reading the OPs comments. Not much superlatives in there which is somewhat concerning. Some people are just understated in their expressions though.

This!!

Also, can't believe people are ranting against OP, just bonkers and audacious. Furthermore, most calling out OP have zero interest in the car base on their own declarations. Yet they're here proclaiming unsubstantiated attributes of the car as well as OP's credibility lol.

It is hit and miss on m240i. My ZF8 early 2018 m240i was much crispier than the 2019 m240i loaner I was given when mine was being repaired. They felt like 2 different cars.

Don't forget Sport auto ZF8 is an extra option on m240i, if it is not ticked as an option, the gear would be sluggish.

My m240i ZF8 is as good as DCT in auto and more pops and bangs (MPE) on downshifting automatically than the sport exhaust in M6Comps but slightly less crispier than the DCT in M6Comp when driving manually.

In ZF8 sustained pulling on the left lever would take you to the lowest gear for the speed, if you want to redline, something not available with DCT

Very bizar! When any of us would be asked to break in a new M, we would probably spend entire Christmas in the car.

"not able to hit some turns"? The first curve you encounter, you give it some and you'll feel the balance immediately, and the weight and the eagerness to pull into the curve. You play a bit with the accelerator and you'll immediately feel the reaction on mass transfer. When you come to an open space you steer in and you keep reducing the turning radius until it understeers... do you feel this in the steering wheel? Do you really need to provoke this behaviour? Do a fast left-right, did it feel heavy or nimble? etc.... after 15mins you already have a good idea of the behaviour of the car.

"I didn't plan a long trip?"... What!!? the first day I would have driven several hours, probably at night. I can come up with +100 excuses to tell my wife I have to leave for a couple of hours.

Turbo lag: what about the more important turbo threshold underneath 2700rpm? In combo with the ZF8 and in driving in mode, you will probably drive rather always in this "no torque" zone: how frustrating is this?
