BMW Dealership Board killed off ED as there was a lot of abuse. Any series car could be order as “freebie” at ED invoice meaning wasn’t coming out of dealership allocations- but M cars did come out of allocation. People would fly into Munich, such as flight crews and business travelers, and leave their BMW at the Welt without driving for a € 70 fee.

ED was great combined with Oktoberfest, as I did 3 of these ED/Oktoberfest combos every 3 years until it is was dropped.

This should be interesting. Greenville Marriot has a free shuttle service from GSP, wonder if its still a BMW vehicle pick-up or the bus that takes you to the PC. What are we going to Uber now to the PC? Could always pitch a tent outside the PC the night before, wake-up and roll into the PC for coffee. Other options are to stay downtown Greenville, as better restaurant selection, and request either a Mercedes or Tesla to drop you off at the PC the following morning. Will have my 11th PCD this spring, stay tuned 🍿

Not sure where he’s getting that info. Their official excuse at the beginning of the pandemic was that the take-rate for North America had dwindled to the point that it wasn’t cost effective to keep it going.

Regardless, they have no intention of restarting it, a huge petition circulated and it made no difference.

What was the cost there versus doing PCD? AFAIK you had to pay for own flight and accommodations, and the car still had to be shipped to the US anyway...didn't seem like costs were a huge part of it.

Does make sense that they wouldn't continue for abuse reasons and use the pandemic as an excuse to cut it, officially.

I believe that the program actually cost them money.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but typically I think you actually got a $7000 or so discount off of MSRP to do European delivery.

I know that This had some kind of tax implication, which was beneficial to BMW AG, but it doesn't exactly sound like a very profitable venture for them to do European delivery.

No one from BMW, that I’ve seen, has said it was from any kind of abuse. Their official stance was what I posted.

After carefully evaluating the changing BMW U.S. customer preferences towards U.S.-built X vehicles and the declining interest in the European Delivery Program, BMW has made the decision to bring the U.S. market European Delivery Program to a close in the Fall of 2020.

I'm aware. I'm just saying it does make sense if that was an actual reason but only officially use the pandemic as the public excuse. There's all kinds of reasons things change, all I'm saying.

Right. That was my impression was any discount you got was BMW directly them also saving money, not just giving you a discount out of the goodness of their hearts.

The consumer could save the 5% off MSRP (or better depending on dealer thanks GOLFFRR ) and BMW got to declare it as a tourist car and not pay US import duties.

They didn’t use the pandemic as the excuse, it was just timed that way since they were shut down anyway.
