I was wondering from the start of this thread my personal guess was that there was never a permission from BMW to post anything about the new G8x here. At least until the first "real reviews" from magazines and/or journalist come out... But just my unknown speculation as for example in Germany no dates and no timeline of reviews is known yet so why should it be different in NA.

Just wanted to see, find it odd that it would be out in texas of all places. Couldn't find any info on any production cars/test cars was hoping someone may have took a picture of the vin. But yea could be a NDA situation, BMW doesn't mess around with that sort of stuff. We have cars that come through from time to time from the port (we are very close as you may or may not know) and we never post anything on them bc its a big no no.

2016 340i - 3686 lb
2016 M3 - 3651 lb

2021 M340i - 3827 lb
2021 M440i xDrive - 3986 lb

Funny enough, from their E92 M3 review:
“However, the entire car weighs about 250 more pounds than the last M3, and that's a consequence of the 3-series coupe, the car on which the M3 is based, getting bigger.”

What’s old is new again I guess
This is just selective pulling of #'s here. Go apples to apples comparing a E90 and F30 335, then dig a little more and tell me why the longer/wider F80 M3 has a lower curb weight than the smaller outgoing E90 M3.

They definitely didn't "improve" on everything from E90 to F80 generations as DMK stated above, but they did put a focus on not letting it get any heavier; which is now out of the window.

Was this ever real? I'm highly suspicious

Car not released for another 3 months to owners in March 2021

Mysterious poster is breaking a car in for someone else? What? I'm so rich I'd like you to drive this world exclusive car that I own ... before me... okaaay then.

Bimmerpost does what Bimmerpost does, wades in with details and questions.

Poster panics and it's all deleted?

Did I miss anything?

And why M davison allow such a peak in the car weight.
Was thinking the same and i remember someone pointed out that for racing G82 M4 will replace current M6 and G87 M2 replace M4 for the GT cars ... So if you look at it that way then it kind of make sense. And if that logic is confirmed it means that current F87 M2 will not really have a successor and will probably rocket in value... Let's see how that goes...
From the racing perspective this rational/thought process isn't completely correct. The cars selected to race in specific series are based on part marketing and part regulations. If you look at the history of the GT3 category or next step up (previously GT2, then GTLM, now GTE). BWM went from the E90 M3 to the Z4 to M6 and then current M8 (in GTE, M6 still in GT3) now reverting to M4 (at least in GT3).

Long story short BMW originally went to the M6 as part marketing ("halo car") and part regulation (likely still wanted to run the V8) which the same idea was carried over to the M8. So from that perspective you are correct in how BMW "positions" car from a marketing view, but with return of the M3/M4 to GT3 (and maybe a M2 to GT4 although it is already running in a lower class) maybe just maybe BMW is actually trying to return to some success on the race track rather than just selling an image.

The OP supposedly works at a Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) in Texas but not necessarily a direct BMW employee. I believe the car is real and he has access to it but there's no evidence that he was officially breaking it in...

Either way we'll continue to wait for proper media reviews. My guess is early to mid February, a month or so before official deliveries!

Maybe.

One of his statements was, “Acceleration is quick and immediate.” That literally describes every single new BMW on sale today.

“The steering feels better than the F80.”
“The cold start sounds better.”
“The S58 handles [the additional weight] admirably.”

He had lots of positive things to say. Unfortunately, they were disappointingly uninformative and vague, nearly to the point of questioning whether this was real or not.

BUT:
Being the first one and posting it in a G80 Forum that's what you have to expect

too bad we don't get more pics and review's about driving and especially the bucket seats..
As i have ordered them he made me unsecure if they will be comfortable for a long ride...I just had the fun to sitt in like for 10 minutes in a standing car, difficult to say how it will be on a 2 hr ride

Comparing F to G is apples to apples. I can’t actually find their numbers for the E90 M3, only the E92, and they put it at 1 pound less than the F80 actually (3650 v 3651). They have a 2011 E90 335i at 3514 lb, so if you’re trying to say that they didn’t add as much weight for the M in the F-gen that looks to be true. That also looks to be the case for the G though, iirc early figures are putting it ~38xx or around the same as the M340i

I disagree. He definitely got in trouble or was afraid of being called on the carpet by his superiors for this. Otherwise, he would have just ignored the DM's. There is no way he was allowed to do what he was doing, they have been controlling the flow of information pretty diligently.

I don't know what's confused here. Let's scrap the 35x variants then. Compare an E90/2 M3 curb weight with the F80/2 M3 curb weight. You won't see the a gain in weight to match the gain in size.

The ///Motorsports division made an effort from the E9x to F8x generation to not let their offering balloon in weight generation over generation - it was one of the few lasting criticisms between the E46 to E90 M generation. And then do the same comparo between F8x and G8x generations. The car still grew in proportion, but this time the weight gain is commensurate. And that's not an improvement.
