It's simple, cost.

I have been watching used gt3 sales for a while. There's a graph of sales to price on this page:
https://bringatrailer.com/porsche/911-gt3/

Here's a recent example: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...he-911-gt3-58/

Still $70k over the M3 and that's before I pay 7% sales tax in NJ. Believe me, if I could afford it I would.

The ZF8HP76 was introduced for a better driving experience. The people that are running the xHP transmission tunes are reporting it's as fast as a DCT.

They're also reporting that the track mode of the xHP tune is actually too aggressive. So, there's that. Listen to the shifting here.

The transmission isn't the issue.

Absolutely, which is why people need to chill with the loose talk. For the most part, if the Porsche made economical sense and/or they could afford the price of entry, they'd have one.

I sure would, I'd buy a Porsche over most BMWs. But when you factor cost into the equation, the BMW M models make a compelling alternative to 911s.

Hec, if a Ferrari or Lambo made economic sense or if we could afford the price of entry, we'd buy one of those too.

But for most of us, the price matters, especially if you plan on driving the car more than 5,000 miles/year.

I considered used 911s as well when I bought my G82, but the dated interiors turned me away.

I think what most people mean by that is that given a viable choice they'd pick the GT3. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a BMW fanboi but I will also readily admit that I will prefer a Porsche GT car. It's just that it doesn't make economic sense for me right now. My current plan is to have the practicality of the M3 + something like a Cayman S for track work.

I'm talking beyond just this thread. In every ///M thread, the comments about buying a Porsche instead of the ///M car are always littered about……..but rarely does anybody buy the Porsche.

Doing BMW marketing a favor by comparing this watered down CSL to a GT3. Though I guess the drag race wouldn't be very exciting if they compared it to a 911 Turbo.

This thread is funny. The GT3 would eat ANY BMW production car for lunch on a track. Period. Ring times…M4 CSL is the fastest around the ring at 7:15. Fastest production BMW ever. The new GT3 does it in….6:55. Lol. 20 seconds faster. Thats with less HP and less torque. Better brakes, better handling. And no Xdrive wont help it. And both BMW and GT3 were in the same tires so its an even comparison. If you have never driven a Porsche then you dont know how special they are. I owned a Boxster and a 911 C4. Both phenomenal cars. The engine revs effortlessly to the limiter. Never driven a car that revved so freely. I bounced off the rev limiter frequently because I was waiting to feel the engine to know when to shift but it just revved right to the limiter. Also the steering and handling were telepathic. They are nowhere near as practical and there are absolute gems in the BMW lineup that are amazing overall cars. Just dont put down ana amazing GT3 because its made by Porsche.

Carwow never understood the importance of showing trap speed. So the drag races of theirs have always been not high quality from a technical perspective.
"4.0 shows its age"???? Seriously? That pesky 4.0 destroys nearly anything on track including higher hp forced induction competition.....
It's the rest of the car that does the job. The NA adds charisma but that's about it.

What do you mean with your last statement? Do you mean you found the GT3 drag race exciting? 😜🤣😜

It's difficult to compete with physics, the engine sitting in the rear axle is a huge advantage to launching...Plus, Porsche engineering is second to none.

Everyone is trying to compare M4CSL and GT3 which are fundamentally different cars. It's just a "YouTubers" trend and people seem to fall for it.

I'll buck that trend. I'm on both sites because I have loved both brands and owned both brands for decades. BMW has let me down lately, however. I wanted the new G80 (and now the G87) to be dailies, but I feel BMW has lost their way. Ugly designs, massive weight gain.

I still hold out hope for a good looking, good driving, small sports sedan from Bavaria.
