I don't see a drastic change unless sales are drastically low, which I'm imagining they likely won't be, so big grilles are here to stay.

I just did some quick "photoshop" of the pics above (credit goes to whoever they belong to)...anyone think this look with the plate inside the grill would actually look best? I really can't decide...it's god awful any way you slice it.

Just nothing good about it anywhere up there. Another thread was discussing the all black being best to "hide" the grill a bit but drop one of those plates on that all black and it's like red wine on a white shirt!

I would just put the plate normal in the middle. It doesn't look great there or anywhere else. But most cars don't look better with a square white plate with numbers on it plastered on the front. If I don't put the plate in a strange place, I will notice it less.

Wow, that is NICE imo. See, it's all about proportions and flow. That is still a large grill but well-executed.

I actually like that. Breaks up that grill pretty well.

I have no problem with the grille, although this sketch is the best I've seen as a different perspective. As to plate placement, I've used tow hook plate holders on my last three BMWs. They look fine and can be removed easily for cleaning- and the position can be adjusted to avoid the front parking sensor.

I actually got pulled and written warning on Sisters loop outside Leakey by bored highway patrol for no front plate on my Shelby GT350 (actually had sto-n-sho removable plate mount but left it in the trunk after I washed the car). Devil's advocate - when was the last time you saw a Porsche GT car (or any 911 for that matter) with a front plate in TX? My 2016 M4 GTS came with front plate mount that there is no way to mount (I looked at doing it after my warning ticket, just doesn't work, no way to attach it). Sure hope those written warnings don't affect my insurance |

But I don’t believe we’ll see the grill design go away at LCI

BMW has been teasing this design direction for at least 6 years.
Ignoring the large grilled (but not unreasonably so) 2014 7 series concept, 2015 gave us the CSL Hommage. That probably took a few years to design so now we're going back almost a decade of flirting with BIG in your face kidneys. They told us they weren't kidding with the X7 concept, the iNext concept, the 4 series concept, the i4 concept, the Vision M concept. I'm probably missing 1 or 2. And now with the production ready 4 series, M4 and M3. They are committed to in your face grills. Anyone who thinks an LCI is going to get a grill treatment you are going to be extremely disappointed. |
