What if BMW was just messing with us all this while with the ugly long tooth kidney grille?
What if BMW debuted the 2021 M3/M4 with a TOTALLY different front end? That would be a total shocker! Tbh, I would love something like that to happen since this new grille does not appeal to me at all since day one...

Yes, the car would look amazing if it were a different car. Unfortunately, BMW designed and built it this way for some reason. I hope it's a colossal flop and they go back to building good looking cars with normal sized grilles again. I hate the X7, the LCI 7 series and the new 3/4-Series, M3/4 all because of their ridiculous grilles.

I'm not into P cars but respect the gradual design evolution of the 911. Some think that's boring but instead it's created an Icon over the last 50 years. |

I'm on my 6th 911. I had a 2018 BMW M4 Competition that I really liked, but it was not a whole lot of fun to drive in Alaska during the winter. I heard the new M4 would be all-wheel-drive, but once I saw the direction BMW was headed with the new grille design, I traded my M4 in and upgraded to a 911 C4S. I know they're not in the same market segment exactly, but price wasn't really a big factor for me. I just wanted a fun coupe that I can drive all year round. But that grille alone kept me from even considering the upcoming M4.

You’re correct, BMW grills have not been the attractive element of the cars for a while now, even the small ones have swollen surrounds, but the market has remained receptive to BMWs, especially their big ass SUVs. The exception has been the sale of 4 series cars in the U S which fell off by 40% in 2019. So, I can’t explain the new M3, but with the i4 at the core of the revamped 4 series product line, I wouldn’t expect any drastic LCI until a few years after the i4 is launched. |

Imagine after all this time and all these sneak peeks, release day comes and BMW is like, sike! Then they reveal the new M3 with normal looking grills. Ah, if only.

It seems that buyers today are interested in technology first and foremost because that's easy to show off and reaches a wider audience. Driving dynamics and looks appear to be a distant second or third.
