Not if you're going to lease it...
with the residual, the payment would be higher than the G80

I originally had an M2 on order. Actually still do and when it comes in I’m going to see if it’s a car I’d rather have. I personally still think the M2 looks better and I prefer small cars and the M2 is a better size for me. That being said my G82 is in a stunning individual color and it’s been a fantastic car thus far. My real only complaint is how big it is, but other then that I’m enjoying it.

I’ve seen this referenced multiple times in this forum and it confuses me.

G82 M4 is only about 5% longer than the G87 M2 and they weigh the same (in RWD auto guise).

I tested an M2 when mine was in for a service. Looks much better in person than in pictures and I enjoyed the drive, was perhaps a bit more engaging than the M4. The cabin materials are much better in the M4 - in particular the leather, given the price of the M2 for me it felt a bit cheap inside in places. So my view is technically it is very good, engine felt strong, chassis was very good, but the downgrade in interior spec would put me off buying one.

Ah, OK, if you find one g87 for under $35k, your monthly may be under $1k

I got the g80 back in May, no MSD, $0 down, $85,500 MSRP, my monthly lease payment including Texas Taxes (on the whole vehicle value) is $1,250.

I suggest you redo the math

Go for it, test drove one and it's almost the exact same experience albeit a smaller package. You will notice the size difference and handling characteristics. Besides that the weight difference is negligible

Why would you take an M2 over an M4? It's smaller without being lighter, has a worse interior, not available in Comp/AWD form and is not that much cheaper either.

I personally like the M2 looks better than M4. I don't need AWD either but I agree it's a shame it's not that much lighter than M4.

M3/M4 interior is only better if you get the full leather package otherwise lots of plastic is there too so at this point it's a 100K+ car vs 70K car.....

there might be an M2 comp or CS coming at some point too...

It's ones of those things that doesnt seem like a huge difference on paper but is actually quite a big difference in real life. The M2 does feel smaller, both on the inside as well as when driving it.

True, what I noticed was the height difference. Stock for stock the M4 is lower at the roof then the M2. For some reason that threw the looks off for me. I know coilovers would fix that. Both great looking cars in my opinion!.

Just traded in my G87 M2 for an M4C X-Drive. Had a shitty M2 lease and got massive discount on a fully loaded M4C. No regrets, this car is much more planted and gives me full confidence in any terrain. And I prefer the styliny, but that’s subjective.

I drive the M2 (along with M3CX and M4CX, and I own an M3CX) at M track days and it was a lot of fun. Great fun on the tight autocross course, and quite lively out on Sonoma Raceway. It just dives into corners like it weighs far less than it does. The M3/M4 with X drive were faster and easier to drive, but the M2 was easy to kick the tail out on, even with all the nannies on. Personally the M3CX fits my needs better for moving people, but the M2 would be a great option if you want a 2 door, RWD car that just dives into corners in a way you wouldn’t expect from a 3800 pound car.

I had a blast in the M2 at the BMW track school. I drive a M3CX now but once the M2 gets x drive (if it does) I would possible jump into one of those. Fun little car reminded me of my 911's.

I am sorry but have to laugh at your car payments. For me that’s 2020 and up Lamborghini payments. Nobody should be paying over $350 a month for a BMW period. If you are you’re living outside your means. I can see it if your make $500k and up but at that point you wouldn’t have leased and would have paid cash. How about paying these vehicles off the day you drive off the lot? That’s a thought. I am old school military and a $1200 a month is a mortgage payment. It just is.

All business write off.

but yes it is crazy. I only pay $1004 for my 21 G80 MT. and it cost $400 more now.

and in the land of San Francisco a mortage of $1200 will only get you a $250k broken down housing and even if maybe consider low income property.

It all depends where u live. $1200 mortgage anywhere on the west coast is not realistic. Most homes in metropolitan areas are around $1 million and up from there so there is zero chance you pay $1200 for mortgage. You can’t even rent a decent apartment in the city for $1200. So I am not sure what u mean “it’s just is”. It’s just not. Unless you bought something 10years ago and refied during COVID lows of interest.

As far as car payment it’s all relative. G80 is around $90k so I don’t see how you can expect lease to be $350. And just to give you some prespective average car payment according to LendingTree in 2023 was above $700. That’s just reflection of the prices of cars.

You can be old school or new school. But prices are what they are.
