The real question is who are you selling the M4CSL badge to and how soon until someone slaps it on the back of a standard M4?!!!

The overall concept is indeed sound. Perhaps the complexity of executing it well is what will distinguish one car/owner from another.

I’m all for the positive criticism comments with pointers and tips, but I just don’t understand or care for the dismissive and rude comments/thoughts. You went outside the box and attempted a custom mod which is cool in itself (apply pat on back now).

Can you clean it up once it’s actually on the car… yeah (let’s give you the time to at least get it on the car and tweak what you can). Do you have clean it up... well no because it’s your car. You paid/financed a lot of money for this car and you want to customize it your way so have fun with it. Hell, you may end up hating it and ripping it off and buying something different and this debate of worthiness is pointless.

My only suggestion would be to search around for a 3D printer that can make it a single solid piece to fit those dimensions and clean up that portion of the mod for you. Thanks for sharing and keep doing you regardless of what others say!

Nice work. It's a helpful write up and lets people know what they are getting into.
I don't know if there is a good way to make the M3 or M4 Competition badge look factory without body filler, shaping and repainting the whole thing. The Competition is too small for the opening. Filling and matching the upper radius so just the bottom is flat would be ideal.
The companies making replicas could easily modify the mold to make an awesome alternative.

Not slamming the OP's install. As he mentioned it needs a little tweaking to be perfect. I think the badge opening is too big to ever be perfect.

It looks like Twenty Two Tuning is making a black CSL grill without any recess at all. I would be happier not having one more M4Competition badge than the work involved to do this mod in a way I'd be happy.
I emailed TTT for more pictures.

Love the effort! I'm sure it'll come out just fine.

I don't care if the OP hung a set of hairy testes from the bottom of that grille. The critical issue here is that he has that grille. The CSL style grille is the most important cosmetic mod in the history of car modding. No other mod does to a car what the CSL grille does to these G80s.

This came so close to becoming excellent, yet it fell far short. But there's still time to get it properly. What's holding him back?

*** UPDATE ***

OEM M4 CSL grill, and lower M Performance carbon inlets installed. MAN....this was one of those modifications that COMPLETLY transformed the car. It looks amazing, even better in person. The mix of CF, and gloss black really compliments the mix on the rest of the car.

As far as the badge dilemma, I had a friend 3D print me an insert with his filament based 50 micron printer. I'm also having a dentist buddy of mine print me one with his resin based, 30 micron printer using ABS resin. I will use which ever one looks best, and post updated pics once the badges go on.

Stoked is an understatement.

Can anyone share a link to a M4 Competition badge that is small enough to fit into the space for the badge on the CSL grille? I ordered one from eBay which ended up being the trunk badge which is far too large. thanks

You can buy an oem side breather for $30 and take the badge off of that, it’s the same one that comes on the oem grille which isn’t sold separately. P/n 51-13-8-074-919

Exactly. I left mine and I have more mods than most common M3 owners with $1400 a month payments. 🙄

The rear trunk emblem I took off the “CSL” part. The sides don’t have it.

You could have spent $200 off of eBay for the same look grill and not have gone through all the issues you had.

Forgot about this thread! Sold my car recently. But the final product came out AMAZING. 3D printed a piece that fit perfectly into the badge area. Sanded, primed, painted, cleared, polished and PPFed the piece. Applied it with 3M double sided tape. Attached OEM badge to it. Looked killer. Wish I took better pics of it.

Appreciate all the the suggestions in this thread—helped me arrive at a high quality, OEM+, durable final product.
