     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hello,
If i wanted to unlock my ecu could i get a clone ecu and have that get sent to Femto and unlocked instead of my oem one.
If so, does anyone know how i can clone my ecu and the price of it? I really want to tune but i can't have my car down- it's my only one. Let me know guys please !

The cloning process is done when the ecu is unlocked, and AFAIK is only available with competition models as they use folder x3m/x4m ecus.

When I had my Supra (not sure if the G8X is the same) there is only a specific ECU you could use that they were buying out of crashed cars etc and inventory was extremely low. I’m sure it would be the same for the G8X I’m assuming it would be an earlier ECU out of a x3M or something like that and a dime a dozen. Price was $3695 when I did it on my Supra.

moproblems, Hello I'm new to the forums and have a question for moproblems. I have a G80 competition and am wanting to get my DME unlocked for the same reason as the haddib233 and I also have the extended warranty from the factory. You said there is a company AFAIK who has a DME that I could purchase as a second DME and have that unlocked??? I apologize if I misunderstood that but if you could please elaborate on this topic I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

AFAIK stands for As Far As I Know.

I was saying exactly the opposite. You need to send your original DME to Femto to either A: have it unlocked or B: have it cloned, then the cloned ECU is unlocked. Car is down without an ECU either way.

Visconti just sends it to Femto... Like everybody else out there.

No point in cloning unless you want to go ECUTEK. I tried it, and it sucks... Too many glitches and no flex fuel yet, either. So I recommend just unlocking your ECU.

I think the reason he’s looking for clone may be for when the car needs to go into dealer for whatever. It’ll be ideal to swap to his stock ECU at that time and back to tuned for when he receives his car back?

At least that’s why I’m also interested in a cloned one 😅

Has Femto lost an ECU yet? What would happen if so? Could you get a new one from BMW?

If you want to clone your ECU you have to send out your original one regardless so the car will be down either way.

Courier's always have the ability to lose things.

You can order a replacement ECU from BMW. It's obviously not cheap, but not all is lost.

If it's lost during transit, it's between you and the shipping company. Femto can't be held responsible.

You will need to buy a new ECU

Sorry didn’t mean to imply femto is losing ecus. Of course it would be in shipping. Just wanted to make sure I could get a new one. What is the cost?

There is a company that hand delivers them to Femto. It’s $400 more than shipping it yourself. Visconti will unlock yours and they also source a pre june 2020 ecu that is then cloned. If you don’t care about cloning, I’d just use the company that hand delivers it for piece of mind.

If you blow the motor or Tranny, they will know it's been tuned. Don't waste your money and time. If you tune it, just go with it and enjoy.
